The title says it all. I'm trying to decide between the two schools now. I plan on doing Pre-med and I just want to get opinions with pros and cons of each school. At Georgetown NHS I would be doing Human Science while at Vanderbilt I'm not too sure yet (probably Medicine, Health, and Society). I'd have to pay the same amount at both schools (~$5000 due to very generous financial aid) and I wouldn't mind going to either city. It just depends on which school would give me more internship opportunities, a better education, and a better chance on getting in a decent medical school (though I know this really depends on the student, certain schools seem to have better reputations). Any input would be appreciated. Thank you

A bit confused…were you just called off the waitlist at Georgetown?

Yeah I was; sorry for the confusion.

Both are excellent schools. Vanderbilt, as you know, has their med school right there on campus in the event you secured an internship there; it certainly is convenient. Furthermore, both the undergraduate and med school at Vandy are ranked higher than GU. (I personally think ratings within top 25 are negligible for the purposes of med school entrance, though. If you do well [key words] at any if these schools, you’ll have a great shot at gaining entrance into med school.) Where do you feel a connection? Do you think you’re more of a sprawling, urban kid who’d thrive in a Jesuit environment (GU), or would you be happier at a secular school in a mid-size city that embodies southern attributes? They’re both very different and really only you can decide. I will say from a housing perspective, the point goes to Vandy. JMO

If you plan on being a doctor, go to Vandy. Its sciences are much more well-respected and will help you get into med school if you can keep up your grades. There’s no reason to go to NHS if you’re not going to study health policy IMO.

Thanks for the input guys but it looks like I’m going to going to Georgetown since they have a lot more opportunities, in my personal opinion, for a serious pre-med student.

I am a former faculty of Georgetown University school of medicine and was on its admission committee for a while. My wife graduated from Georgetown nursing school which is now NHS.

You are better off at Vanderbilt.
