Georgetown or Boston College?

I was accepted early action to Boston College and I absolutely love it there. However, Georgetown was my first choice before they deferred me. I just got into Georgetown and now I can't decide which one to go to. Please help!

Both schools are great. Georgetown carries more prestige–internationally, socially, among graduate and professional schools, Wall Street, employers, etc.–if that is important to you. Of students admitted to both schools, 90% choose Georgetown (this is statistically verified by the admissions office). Georgetown has the best of all worlds–a great campus life and culture, located in an ideal college-town with shops, restaurants, bars, and in a city that is one of the greatest in the world with incredible resources, academically, professionally, and socially. Georgetown students tend to be more cosmopolitan and internationally-focused, whereas BC has a more preppy, white-kid feel. BC football is definitely better and bigger, if that is important to you.

go where your heart tells you to go
it’s not about rankings, it’s really about fit
if even for a little your heart tells you georgetown or bc, go there
there really is no difference between these two colleges in regards to undergrad degrees

What are you interested in studying? Do feel a particularly draw to Boston or DC? Personally, I feel like Georgetown has so much to offer academically and socially, but as previous posters said fit is very important. Do you have an opportunity to visit both/either as part of an accepted students weekend? I think seeing the school again can be a real help.

Agree with the others - go with your heart. Both are great schools in great cities. I have one child who graduated from BC and one from Georgetown. I couldn’t imagine either at the other school. The fit/feel is so important. What a wonderful dilemma to have! Congrats!

I agree, go with your gut. My D got accepted to both and chose BC (Carroll School Of Management, Accounting and Information Systems majors). She graduates in May with job in-hand and has never once regretted her decision. Bloomberg Business Week has BC ranked 9th for undergrad business schools for 2011.

You know, Boston and vicinity is no slouch when it comes to college towns either!

It’s all so subjective.
As a college town in the East, I don’t think that Boston takes a back seat to anyplace else. I like it better than DC.
But all things considered, very few people would choose BC over GU, and with good reason.
But at the end of the day, the best choice is the school where you think you would be the happiest and where you think you would thrive and grow.
Good luck with your decision. You really can’t go wrong.
