I have narrowed down my schools to these two, but now I'm stuck. Here are my pro-con lists for both schools... please tell me what you think!

I want to go pre-med, by the way, and am in College/A&S at both schools.

Georgetown:
~Better overall university (I think)
~Good medical school (plus the early acceptance program)
~I love the campus!
~I loved the atmosphere when I visited!
~DC!!!

BC:
~I LOVE the campus!
~I really liked my visit there.
~I LOVE Boston very, very much.
~Boston, again. It's like the ultimate college town!
~I got in the honors program, which sounds really interesting.

I'd love to hear any comments anyone has...

Georgetown has a medical school and a hospital right on campus. If you want to develop quals for med school outside the classroom (part time jobs, etc.) look at the opportunities Georgetown gives you versus BC. Plus it is easier to get into a Medical School coming from the university that has the med school.

Couple of points though. Tons of kids start out pre-med and move to something else. So, a school with a med school is a plus but no biggie.

I’m biased for Boston but I did work in D.C. for a couple years. Part of college is the experience. Georgetown is an island apart. Want to go to an away game to follow the sport you like or participate in? Good luck, you’ll be doing a lot of travel. Want to go downtown for some nightlife? You’ll be taking a taxi back to the island. Meanwhile in Boston you’ll make friends at several other schools and getting to an away game is a short BC bus ride or the metro. At Georgetown, you only can make friends on the island. Btw, BC smokes Georgetown’s campus. However, if you want warmer weather for longer, Georgetown students will be in shorts when BC still may have ice on the streets.

Both have good students so you can’t go wrong. But academics are only one part of the college experience. Socially Boston can not be beat. And if you like sports, BC is ACC so you get those kinds of schools coming in. Besides what do you want to in Spring, take a 15 minute metro to watch the Red Sox at Fenway Park or go off the island at watch the Nationals?

I’ve spent time at both schools. Personally, I like Boston more as a city, and Chestnut Hill is a nice little area. I liked BC’s campus a lot more, and it’s cheaper than GU (unless you got some financial aid there).

Don’t let prestige dictate where you go; they both have great reputations in the academic world, and if you choose the experience over the rankings you’ll be a lot happier in life. I think the honors program provides some great opportunities if I remember correctly, and it’s pretty competitive to get into, so it’s a legit deal.

Both GU and BC have great sports programs, though BC has football, basketball and hockey at the big-time levels, where GU only has basketball (that I’m aware of anyway). I also got the impression that people at BC were much more down-to-earth and less materialistic than those at Georgetown.

But academically, they’re both awesome. I would go for fit personally. Look at which city you like better, compare finances and social activities, and you’ll have your answer!

-Georgetown may not have a metro stop next to the campus, however there are shuttle buses running to Dupont Circle and Rosslyn stops, as well as the Georgetown Law Center, which is downtown. GWU is also a 20 minute walk away. Also, there are at least 4 metrobus stops right on the campus. Take a 10 minute walk to Wisconsin Avenue, and you’ve got a lot more metrobus stops, as well as Circulator buses.
-for nightlife, Georgetown has MANY bars and clubs. These are all within a 5-10 minute walk from the main gates of the campus. And again, metrobus is available right on campus.
-sportswise, Georgetown is big in basketball, and is very important to the social culture during the season. Gtown also is great at lacrosse. You can go to Nationals games, Wizards, Redskins, etc. Oh and Baltimore is an hour away.
-BC and Georgetown have similar populations (I have 2 friends that transferred from BC to GU, and I work with someone that graduated from BC last year). GU students are no more “materialistic” than any others.

So no, Georgetown is not an island, and you have easy access to the city, including the great nightlife that is literally at your fingertips in the Georgetown area.

It really depends on what you’re into. However, I would prefer BC. Both are extremely impressive and prestigious schools. Georgetown is obviously harder to get into but if you’re in honors at BC, I do not believe coming from Georgetown will give you much of a leg up when looking for jobs. If you want a balance between fun and academics, BC is your school. At Georgetown you’ll find an extremely competitive group of people who are less likely to be looking for a good time than those at BC. If you want fun people–BC, BC, BC. As the post above me says, you can’t beat the social life at BC. At the same time, however, you will be challenged and will be surrounded by people who will share your desire to improve intellectually.

“At Georgetown you’ll find an extremely competitive group of people who are less likely to be looking for a good time than those at BC.”-HAHA, that couldn’t be further from the truth. At Georgetown, the sentiment is definitely work hard, play hard. Students study hard during the week, and go all out on the weekends. If you browse the Georgetown forum, you will see this said by many actual Georgetown students. Georgetown students have a great balance between getting their studies done, and having fun on the weekends, whether it’s going around downtown Georgetown, going to Adams Morgan, the Waterfront, U Street, K Street, Dupont Circle, etc. And there are the many cultural activities both on and off campus. So while BC and Georgetown may both have great academics and great social lives, Georgetown has the edge in academics, as well as many research opportunities available with a major Medical Center right on campus.

“I do not believe coming from Georgetown will give you much of a leg up when looking for jobs”-also not true.
