I got two big envelopes in the mail today: my new student packet for Georgetown and an acceptance (from the waitlist) package from UNC (out of state). I'm not sure which I should be more excited about.

Here's my question: if you had to go to either or these schools to study **business /B, which would it be? Disregard money as a factor.

According to USNews (I know how much people hate these rankings, but still its useful) UNC is ranked 5th for undergrad business (peer assessment of 4.3/5) and Georgetown is ranked 21st (peer assessment of 3.7/5)

Haha not going to argue with the rankings. BUT, in general (at least on the West Coast), GU has a much better rep for business/pre-law/humanities, while UNC has a better rep for bio/pre-med/research. There are exceptions, of course, but that's the general idea I think.

Also, GU has one of the best undergrad reputations in the country, is MUCH more diverse, and is located in a booming city with countless internship opportunities (though Chapel Hill is the quintessential college town). Good luck!

Georgetown is amazing for International Relations and Political Science and is great as it is in the capital for government internships and such but its business school is not that good.

Hmm, UNC thinks it makes sense to have a deadline of May 23rd for me to accept or deny my spot in the Class of 2012, but not to notify my of my financial aid package until the end of the month/early June. It's not like they've had my FAFSA and CSS since March 1st or anything...

Update: I called the financial aid office and was given that ( ^ ) info. The woman said to call admissions to ask about an extension. I did that and was told to call a man by the name of Mr. Toon (could be Tune, I don't know how it's spelt...). I left him a message and am awaiting an answer.

I'd have to say I'm leaning towards Georgetown right now.

Which school has the better reputation in the business world (ie better job getter/resume material)

You guys are ridiculous. Milkmagn, grow up. Enough with the Georgetown bashing. Do you actively search for threads involving Georgetown so that you can put down the school? Very mature. Anyways, Georgetown is known for being strong in business, especially since it has had a meteoric rise in all the rankings the past couple of years as they infuse money and new minds into the faculty. With the opening of the gigantic new business building on campus, business major will have the nicest facilities on campus to learn in as well.

I am sure UNC is a fantastic school, I really know nothing about it. But I would be inclinced to say that Georgetown is more well known in more parts of the country, and probably would net you more connections in the business world, since Georgetown graduates can be found anywhere you go.

georgetown is reaching out to kids who arent its typical core students (humanities, IR, government). the MSB building is sick (or will be) and, along with the sciences, the school is shifting a bunch of its resources in that direction. its a great time to be a business student at gtown.
