Georgetown -- rivalry?

Is there a big Georgetown rivalry? I got lots of friends who go there.

dunno.. i have to choose between georgetown and hopkins, since i didn't get any money anywhere else. =/

ooo....gotta go with jhop there. turns out gtown doesnt even have frats....how much does that suck?

And rivalry for what? LAX? i think its prob either jhop/princeton or UMD there...am i wrong?

Of course Georgetown doesn't have a greek system, well at least an official on campus one, there are unofficial ones off campus..but it's a catholic university, they aren't allowed.

There's a big rivalry with MD lax schools (MD, Hopkins, Towson) with UVa and Tech, as well as Syracuse..Georgetown, eh, not so much.

maybe im out of it, but what does being catholic have to do with having a greek system? dont notre dame, and villanova and most other catholic schools have them?

also...maybe im wrong again here, but isnt gtown jesuit? is there a difference?

The Catholic universities in this country (Georgetown, Notre Dame, Fordham, BC to name a few) do not permit single sex fraternities or sororities to operate on campus and does not affiliate with them. They believe that the groups reinforce exclusivity and in some instances cause a lot of problems; like hazing, binge drinking, etc. that were major issues for so long in this country and are still in many ways today. However there are some organizations off-campus that are more professionally oriented than socially. the biggest greek house is one for students in the school of foreign service, there is another alpha phi omega, for national service, that bill clinton was involved with. there is a jewish group that operates a house off campus to host shabbat dinners. georgetown promotes groups on campus to be open to everyone. greek life at hopkins is fairly visible, but by no means prevalent. aobut 1/5 of men and women go greek at jhu.

as for a rivalry, gotwn and hopkins arent. hopkins competes with syracuse for lax championships each year, but it isnt a real rivalry; its lacrosse after all. the rest of jhu sports are D3 and flounder in obscurity on campus. georgetown on the other hand is a basketball power in the big east (alumni include allen iverson, patrick ewing, dikembe mutombo, and alonzo mourning), so its rivals feature boston college, notre dame, and uconn. but clearly their biggest rival is syracuse, for basketball reasons. and if you ask anybody at gtown or syracuse who their rival is, theyll name the other school.
