Georgetown Summer program- people who have gone?

Hi,
I am interested in learning more about the Georgetown summer programs and I was wondering if anyone here has been to one and wouldn't mind sharing their experiences, and the kinds of things you did?
I'm really interested in the international relations program

thanks!

bump ? ? ? ?

Or the summer college program?

This year's international relations program is full, which stinks! it looked really interesting

Thats too bad...well I'm looking at the arabic courses now

What's your source that it is closed? No indication of that last week when we spoke with them.

how many students do they admit into the IR program? i think i might be interested too. do you know why they dont offer scholarship to the IR program?

Curious about that too. Was watching a youtube video from the 2007(?) program earlier and it looked like there were over 100 kids there.

Got my acceptance into the program last week. I completed the application in early Feb. If you are interested, I suggest you continue to apply

I did the IR program the summer before my senior year of high school. It was kind of life-changing. For one, Georgetown became my dream school (and my actual school when I got in early) and my roommate from the program ended up going to Gtown as well and she’s still one of my good friends. You get to work with all the best professors and resources. If you are considering Georgetown SFS this program is very representative of what it is like. I could not recommend it more highly.

I did this program last summer and it was really wonderful. Not only are there people from all over the country (my roommate was from California) but there are lots of people from all over the world–which completely took me by surprise. I made friends with people from Brazil, the Bahamas, China, the Philippines, and Ireland. It was an intense program–we essentially went to 2-3 hour lectures several times a day. As always, some speakers were better than others. “Experts” from various fields spoke–on NGOs, terrorism, nuclear proliferation, technology, international law, etc. I stayed involved by paying attention and taking notes; there were lots of people who felt bored and even fell asleep. Afterwards we we went to our small discussion groups. At the end of the week we had a crisis simulation: We had to coordinate the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq and deal with the policital and social repurcussions in the area. Basically, what you get out of this program is based on what you put into it. All in all, I loved the week I spent at Georgetown. I will warn you–lots of other programs are going on at the same time, so don’t expect to have the campus to yourself. The cafeteria was especially insane . . .

I was also want to know the same.

What about the summer pre-college program? Is it highly selective? I thought that their pricing was quite reasonable for a month in comparison to a lot of other programs out there.

@ Ari7: I’m considering the arabic courses as well! But I think I’m leaning more towards the econ courses…

I’m bumping this.

one last bump. I guess this program isn’t very popular/well-known I suppose?

i’m attending the fundamentals of business program…probably going to take a class at the summer college too

anyone else going?

Yeah. I think I’m going too…

Went in 2008.My attendance was paid by scholarship in full. Not bad if someone pays for the program. Is it worth $2500 of your parents money? Not sure if you are on the conservative side.We had trips to some Middle Eastern embassies. In my opinion it was one sided propaganda. Actually I decided not to enroll to GT(was admitted for fall 09).

Hm, are spots still open for the IR program? I’m guessing not, but still…

Im interested in the program as well…
