Georgetown transfer chances

I was wondering if it would be worth applying to Georgetown after my first year at college...

I am currently a freshman at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. I do not hate Trinity, however I do feel slightly confined on the small, gated campus. Also, the party scene is a little lame and very repetitive. I can't imagine spending all four years of college here.

Here are some of my High School records:
High School GPA: 3.3 (unweighted). My GPA rose significantly my junior and senior year (sort of slacked my freshman and sophomore year)
ACT composite score: 28
ECs: Positions on class student council as well as school-wide student council, treasurer of best buddies, community service club, three sport athlete for all four years, captain of football, track, and lacrosse team.

I also am a middle distance runner on the track team here at Trinity and have run some pretty good times. My times are comparable to those of some members of the Georgetown team. Do you know how much pull the coach would have on me in the admissions process? Can he slot transfer students for his team?

My college experience has been limited to just the first semester. Here is all the information I can provide.
-3.7 GPA for the first semester. I hope to maintain or increase this record over the next semester.
-I have started a community service club, which shovels driveways for incapable elderly.
-I am currently teaching bilingual elementary students in Hartford in order to engage with the community, as well as to strengthen my Spanish.
-I have made great relationships with a few of my professors who would hopefully write my recs.

Again, I wanted to know if I have a chance after the first semester so I can enroll in the fall semester 2009. Georgetown is my dream school, and I would delay applying for another year if it would increase my chances.

Thank you.

It would very much increase your chances to transfer as a junior. The general rule is that it’s very hard to get in to any school as a soph transfer you would not have gotten into as a freshmen. Since your stats indicate Gtown would have been a major reach last year, one good semester is unlikely to change things.

All that said, if you can get recruited, that changes the picture totally.

^i second that motion…if you maintain or increase your gpa over the next year, you would have a much better shot for junior admissions…
