Hello everyone. I’m currently a first semester freshman at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. I couldn’t attend college during the Fall 2014 semester due to personal reasons. This semester, however, I am attempting 16 credits. Also, I am a declared Biology major. The classes I’m taking this semester are:
General Biology- Organisms
General Chemistry I
General Chemistry Lab I
Journey of Transformation (Core)
University Life (Core)
Calculus I
I e-mailed Georgetown Admissions and they told me
Dear Sergio,
You are more than welcome to apply as a transfer applicant if you have a minimum of 12 credits.
Best Regards,
Georgetown University
Office of Undergraduate Admissions
Now, Georgetown releases their transfer admission decisions on June 1st, according to their website. Does it this all mean that I can actually apply for admission? Also, my classes end in the second week of May, so I would have 16 credits in my pocket before they release their decisions. Thoughts?
Look into the Georgetown application. It should have a place for you to indicate how many credits you will have when you transfer, not at the time when you submit your app but before you actually matriculate to Georgetown. So if you’ll obtain 16 semester hours prior to your assumed fall 2015 entrance, then notate so in your app. A lot of transfer apps rely on the assumption that you’re still in college when you apply to transfer, so there is a need to “predict” how many credits you’ll have before you transfer. I, for instance, have 38 credits as of now, but I’ll be submitting my application with a little more than 40 credits because of the classes I’ll be taking in the spring.
That is true, CardinalZenn. Thank you for that information. Now, I know this isn’t a chance thread, but what do my chances look like. If I manage to get a 4.0 this semester, with my rigor of courses, do I have a chance of getting in? My SAT is around a 1950, which I will retake. I do know that GU is a transfer friendly school.
When is Georgetown’s transfer application deadline? If their application is open until June 1st, then you can apply. That being said, if the application closes before your semester ends, you won’t have completed at least 12 credits by the application deadline.
Their application deadline is: March 1st. However, it also mentions on there website that if one needs to update their application, they can fill out a form to do so.
@sergiok
I must be honest. I do not like chancing. Your chances at a college can only be roughly gauged using stats. As transfers, our (I am applying to transfer, too) essays matter much more than they do as freshman applicants. If you want to attend Georgetown, then let it show through your essays. Numbers do help and you should always try and push yourself academically, but don’t hold them as the sole arbiter of your future. If I were you (technically I am in the same boat), I would dedicate tons of time to truly figuring out why you want to attend Georgetown.
As CardinalZenn said, your essays are extremely important. But, keep in mind due to your low number of college credits, your HS stats will come into play.
Let’s see what you guys have to say about this: my professor who said she would be uploading her recommendation to the ApplyWeb app for me well before the deadline, is now not responding to my emails, and I have no idea what to do. Any ideas/thoughts? What will happen if she doesn’t come through on time?
