Georgetown Univeristy Transfer from Sophmore Year

Currently Attending

Want to get into Georgetown from Sophmore Year as Transfer for MSB
college gpa: 4.00
HS GPA: 2.67
SAT: 2260 (M:800, CR:700, W760)
Good Recommendations from my professors
Great essay

what are my chances

Just a question…How did you get that amazing SAT score and yet had a 2.67 GPA for HS ? Your grades are really good except for the mediocre HS GPA. But Goodluck!

^I was wondering the same. I think your HS gpa could hold you back but I’d still apply.

A 4.0 after only one year of college isn’t necessarily something to write home about. I agree with PPs, your hs gpa might hold you back unless you have a good reason for doing poorly.

Yeah, I really slacked off in my junior/senior yr, when it was really important.
My SAT total score was around mid-1700s, up till HS, but worked hard during my break, and boosted up. Suprisingly, I got it over 2000, and Im very satisfied.

But I have a question, if I send my transfer application now, to get into georgetown from next fall semester (sophmore year), wont it be realllyy tough (as in competitive)?? I mean Georgetown is recognized as one of the top schools…

And how many credits should I have for a transferring in my case.
(A student who wants to get in from sophomore year)

Also some of my friends said that even though you have a high gpa in cc which I attended only for a year, a high sat, and a low HS gpa, the chances of me getting in is low…is it true?

I’m not entirely sure what you’re asking, but I’ll try to answer.

You can’t take more credits your freshman year to have a better chance of transferring. I guess until a certain point, you can, but once you reach 30 credits you’re considered to be a sophomore. To answer your question, it will be tough, because even though you’ll have taken a full year of courses by the time the admissions letters go out, Georgetown will only have looked at one semester (at most, 18 credits). If helps that you made straight As, but it will still be hard, especially with a weak high school record.

Your friends are right. First, with a high-ranked school, it is likely that at least some emphasis will be put on your high school record. Secondly, with only one year of college grades, it’s hard to prove that you’ve significantly changed your study habits. You’re basically saying, “Look, I did well for 16 weeks. Now let me in your school even though I spent two years not doing well.”

I had a 3.5 HS GPA and 1750SATs
I transferred from an unknown LAC (accepts 80%) and I am a white male.

Visit campus, be persistant, perfect other parts of your app like reasons for transferring etc. Specifically, I do a lot of volunteer work abroad and took 18 credits first semester 21 credits second semester with a 3.92 average. Taking the extra classes second semester demonstrated commitment and that my current college was too lenient Message me if you have any specific questions
