Georgetown University Class of 2022 EA Applicants Thread

I was wondering if anyone knows if Georgetown caps admissions from certain high schools? Asking this because my class has roughly 20 students applying when we normally have 3 or so, so I’m wondering if this’ll make it harder

@veagle18 As far as I know, they don’t have a set number, but they definitely won’t accept 20 people from one school. Also, the type of school, location, size, etc. matter.

I go to a private school with about 225/grade and about 2-5 get accepted per year.

@maddyduv I responded but accidentally typed in @/maddyluv, oops!

@veagle18 Having more people does tend to make admissions tougher, since you will be compared to other applicants in your area, and when more people apply, it naturally makes it more competitive. While there is no hard cap, they’re going to try and keep the distribution fairly even, so they won’t want to take too many extra people from your area compared to the years before.

@justliviglife Transferring after a year into the SFS can be harder because SFS does have a pretty structured core curriculum, and it can be hard to fit all of that in in just three years. However, if you are accepted, you can transfer between acceptance and the start of the school year, so it is possible if you’re really set on it.

A lot of people do go to the College for its flexibility, but personally I like the fact that SFS is so structured because it guarantees that you’re coming out with a well-rounded education of the world while also letting you explore your specific interests.

Also, the Culture and Politics (CULP) major in the SFS is as close to building your own major as you can get. You have a lot of freedom in deciding what classes you want to take, and can make your own concentration, so if you’re looking for something more free-form, definitely look into CULP.

Let me know if you have any questions! I’ll be happy to answer them. Good luck everyone!

@masquerade98 Awesome! Thank you! I’m really glad to hear from another person that it’s possible to transfer before the school starts (if accepted, of course). I actually did a summer program at GU this past summer and it made me want to apply to SFS. At first, I thought it would pass, but I’m still wishing I had chosen SFS. I had already submitted the first part of my app and had started my essays, so I just stuck with the college:)

If accepted, I’m not sure if i would try to transfer. I’d definitely have to talk to students.

I’m guessing you’re a current SFS student?

I’m applying to the College too! I put Justice and Peace as my intended major on my application but I’m also very interested in the Government program. What’s your other area of interest?

@justliviglife Yes, I’m a freshman in the SFS. Do know that even though SFS and College have different core curriculums, a lot of times their classes intersect, especially if you’re a government major. Most of the intro classes I’m taking right now have a combination of college and SFS students, since classes like Comparative Political Systems are ones that apply across both schools. Even in higher levels, often the classes will intersect, so even if you don’t transfer, you can still take a lot of the classes offered by SFS.

@justliviglife I agree! If I’m miraculously admitted, I know I will just be happy to be there

@masquerade98 That’s great to know! Thank you!

hey everyone! does anyone know if we need to submit first quarter grades? it doesn’t say anything on the website but someone told me we do so now idk for sure

@canigetahoyaa my counselor submitted my first quarter grades.

@canigetahoyaa No, we don’t (:

@canigetahoyaa However, remember that you have to send in a mid-year report. I know this is definitely true for RD applicants and applicants that are deferred, but I’m pretty sure you have to even if you’re accepted early. I could be wrong about the accepted early part. Stand open to correction.

Hi everyone, applied EA too!
my stats are:
ACT: 32C (35E, 34R, 31M, 28S) and 31C (35E, 33R, 26M, 30S) so superscored it’s a 33
GPA: 3.74 UW 4.14W
black female, 1st generation US citizen
LOTS of leadership ECs
5 APs total (most at my school is probably 7 or 8 based on how many the school offers)
school doesn’t rank

what are my chances of getting in?
and has anyone had an interview yet?

I’m also applying to: Harvard, UPenn, Stanford, Northwestern, WashU, Johns Hopkins, Colombia, Vanderbilt, NYU, and Georgetown

If you applied ea you should have had your interview before nov 1.

@rendr1 But if they just applied for EA on Nov 1, then they wouldn’t have the interview yet. They will get notified in a couple of weeks.

Does Georgetown send a confirmation email for if they received the ea application? They didn’t email me. I don’t know if I’m missing anything.

anybody have any guesses of what day they’ll mail out decisions? i know in the past it’s been the thursday/friday, but that would mean people in DC area would hear on the 9th! i’m trying to gauge if i’ll be out of town when the letter arrives to my house

Are they still only mailing decisions?? There are still 26 days left, but I am so nervous :frowning:

And it said decisions should arrive on the 15th, but I am not sure when they will be mailed. Last year they were mailed on the 13th. @cornfield
