Georgetown University Regular Decision Class of 2019 Thread

I was deferred EA, and hoping to get an admit offer. My stats are all within range for the SFS (33 ACT, 2220 SAT, 700’s for SAT II’s, 3.96 UW GPA, 4th in my class of 1000) but my interview was not great. The guy was conceited, condescending, and had a serious air of superiority. He was a poor conversationalist, and he really made me want to attend the school less.

I visited and loved everyone that I met, and the SFS is obviously amazing, so I still want to go. Ugh.

Any idea what percent of applicants deferred EA are accepted RD?

@maddi12, It is about 10% or so. Keep in mind that Georgetown has basically the hardest Early round, because they admit a lower percentage early than during regular decision.

Interesting note for everyone: Georgetown admissions (just?) posted confirmation about April 1, which means nothing other than it is possible that decisions went out in the mail as of yesterday or today. Just my theory. (Something similar happened during the Early round.)

@LTLion15 interesting what you said about your interview…my daughter also said her interview was painful. The man was very unenthused, just didn’t seem to want to be there and the conversation didn’t flow. I feel like someone should let Gtown know about these dud interviewers…they may not be happy about the impression they are leaving on potential candidates. I’m glad the rest of your experience went well. Good luck to you your stats are strong I bet you get in!!

@collegemomjam: my D had the same experience. Her interviewer spent much of the time telling D why her own kids weren’t smart enough to get into Gtown. My DH had lunch with a colleague about a month ago who used to be a Gtown interviewer. He said that the interviews played a very small factor in determining admission. So there is hope.

@cvisser96 I couldn’t agree more. I am having a similar experience. My interview was really confusing; my interviewer talked all about himself and all about the amazing people he has interviewed-- and I guess I wasn’t one of them. I felt that he did not seem impressed enough with what I had to say. He had interviewed some very high profile people and made it seem like I should live up to them. It really upset me and damaged my view of Georgetown

I’m sorry for everyone’s poor interview experiences. I felt mine went very well, and my interviewer seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say. She only talked about her personal life and past experiences when I asked questions pertaining to those topics. Sounds like a lot of people weren’t as lucky

My interview was also not good. I had about ten interviews and they all went very well except Georgetown. She seemed very rigid in conversation and instead of the interview florwinf smoothly, she asked me repetitive questions and gave me little time to finish speaking. After abut ten minutes we were done and I spent about thirty minutes asking her random questions about Georgetown some of which I already knew the answer too. In general, I’ve been very unhappy with Georgetowns communication methods.

They have a unique application process that is for sure. Good luck to everyone! This is a tough one…

Ds2’s Gtown interview also was his worst, but he got in EA. These interviews don’t count for much.

ETA: There’s a video on the FB page with kids talking about the agony of the little envelope. They are in the gorgeous new Healey Family Student Center. I haven’t been there since it opened. I can’t wait to see it.

When you receive your interviewer’s information, you should also get the information for the chair of your local Alumni Admissions Program committee. If you feel like your interviewer was not up to par, or even offputting and detrimental, then you should certainly feel free to shoot the chair and note and let them know that. They can only take corrective action if they know there’s an issue.

I’m not sure I would say ds’s interviewer was bad; they just didn’t click. Ds did research on him and found one piece of common ground (a sport they shared), but even that did help create a bond.

@Blackbelt2b2 - I don’t know where you got your EA deferral chances at RD regarding @maddi12 's question. But according to http://uadmissions.georgetown.edu/firstyear/early-action typically 15% of EA deferrals get accepted during RD

Thank you! That is reassuring.

Thank you! That is reassuring. Edit: Sorry! Bad connection. Accidentally posted twice and won’t let me delete it.

My D had an amazing Georgetown interview. They must have chatted for 90 minutes. I think she helped herself by coming prepared. She had a resume, a copy of her application and essays. I think the interviewer was really glad she didn’t have to draw out basic information. It was also part good fortune her interviewer was a lawyer and D is interested in international affairs Her Yale interviewer ( a French Prof from CWRU ) was a more challenging match. Sometimes it’s just the luck of the draw…

Yeah to back up what somerone else said: check out the Gtown Uni FB page - there’s a two minute video titled “Sometimes great thigns come in tiny envelopes.” Do you think this means they are beginning to send them out?

@Singersdad, I’m glad your D gave me the same advice for my interviews, all of which went well. Btw, these are totally supposed to be confidential, and I saw right through that lol.

Sorry to hear about others’ interviews but mine went really well! We met at the local starbucks and had a good chat for about 40 mins or so and the lady was really helpful in answering questions! Also, she ran into me while I was volunteering for the YMCA one night and recognized me which I thought was pretty awesome!
