Georgetown VS CAL Berkeley

Right now, I'm trying to decide whether to go to Cal Berkeley or Georgetown. My major is something related to business. In Cal, I got into College of Letters and Science Pre-Business looking to go to HAAS. For Georgetown, I got into SFS which is really good for going into the financial world. I like the campus environment of Georgetown more, but I've also heard some bad things about the drinking problem at Georgetown. Plus, Georgetown is twice as expensive as Cal. Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks!

There are so many better ways to spend $100,000.

The choice here is pretty clear--Berkeley. Not only does it have one of the best undergrad business majors (and a top business school), but it's considerably cheaper.

Cal. Georgetown is just so overrated.

if you are willing to make the most of your experience then either. However, taking day to day expenses in account, if you will be on a budget at Georgetown that may cause added social pressure. i.e. if by paying for private school you wont be able to go out on the weekends as much then it may not be as great of an experience. That's not to say that all social activities involve money, but consider that DC is expensive, and you'll be going to school with mostly people who can afford (and then some) to go to private school.
If that's not an issue then i personally think Georgetown [and DC in particular] is a better place for govt/polisci/related social sciences while Berkeley is prime for engineering/harder sciences. and i think Haas is overrated. that's just me though.

also, i chose Cal over Gtown for financial reasons, and while i initially regretted it, once i got to Cal most thoughts of georgetown disappeared, and i've had the experience of a lifetime. I don't believe there was a "right" choice, but i have made the most of the choice i did make. I looooooveeeee the bay area and the friendships i have made are a big part of my enjoyment here.

that said, I plan on going to Georgetown for graduate/law school.

Save your debt for your MBA program. You want to minimize that as much as possible for undergrad, plus Cal trumps G-town anyway.

I had the same problem as you.

That is, until about half an hour ago when I submitted my SIR - for Berkeley :)

Notwithstanding cost, 65% of students who have this choice choose G'town.

Berkeley>georgetown no doubt!

i chose berkeley over georgetown a few years ago as well

Berkeley and Georgetown are so similar that with your finances you'd be a fool to choose the latter. Both are heavily recruited in every major business practice. At Berkeley, even if you don't get into Haas, econ and other economics-related majors are well recruited. Georgetown is narrow focused and indeed, overrated. Since your focus is business, your GPA will matter less than your soft skills. Unless you have special connections in DC, with the heavy recruitment at both schools, you have nothing to lose by choosing Berkeley over Georgetown, and only money to gain and save.
