Georgetown vs. Cornell

McDonough vs. Dyson. I was accepted to both programs- and although I feel incredibly lucky, I am having a hard time deciding. I plan to pursue international business with a concentration in marketing. Both options seem incredible. I love the location of gtown but cornell is closer to home/an easier commute. Gtown has an amazing foreign policy program I would take advantage of but cornell is ranked higher for the overall undergrad program and the university as a whole, plus it would leave me more space to explore my interests. I’m also having a hard time with the thought of turning away from an Ivy, with the broad alumni network and name value of the school. Cornell has been my dream and I only recently fell in love with gtown but now I love them both. If anyone has any insight at all I would greatly appreciate it so much!!!

Honestly, it depends on what you plan to do afterwards. I would not base it purely off of rank and location. The ranking is not going to make you a millionaire. I can assure you that Georgetown has close too or the same reputation as Cornell. They’re both incredible schools. Personally, I would choose Georgetown, because I feel that Washington D.C. has a ton of opportunity. I also love the suburb of Georgetown and D.C. as a whole. I would do research on both universities and their departments.

For me personally I would go to the ivy just because of all the doors it will open up. Georgetown is an amazing place too though so it’s really wherever you feel you fit best.

I think the location of Georgetown and the connections/opportunities that will provide will be of great benefit to you. Plus - 4 years of housing in Georgetown with free transportation to downtown DC? You can’t beat that with a stick!

One is fairly rural while the other is urban. Pretty significant difference for two closely ranked schools & closely ranked business programs.

Take the focus on Ivy out of the decision. Remember that the Ivy designation refers to an athletic league. Both schools are very well regarded and provide an excellent education so make your decision on other factors, not rankings or perceived prestige.

“plus it would leave me more space to explore my interests”

What are your other interests and how would those be serviced at Cornell in ways that could not be achieved at Georgetown?
