Georgetown University of University of Maryland Gemstone? I am premed and I am having the most difficult time imaginable making this decision. Does anyone feel like helping me out?

gemstone is science based, i think. G-town is more expensive but it is clearly a great university. From what I have been able to gather undergrad institutions play very little roles in medical careers. You need the A's. NOw i don't know where it is easir to get As, gtown or UMD. YOu live in MD and I assume you got some scholarships as 80% in honors do and you are in gemstone. I have friends that are in UMD scholars and science based institutions like Uchicago and are choosing UMD and they don't really have to worry about money THAT much. They are doing pre med also.

How much did UMD give you? I am think somewhere from 4,000-8000?Anyone think of a reason to spend 3-4 times as much on G-town for pre-med??

I received full rides at both institutions. Because money is of no issue, I am just trying to make a choice now.

Do yourself a big favor and goto Georgetown. It is indubitably superior to UMD in every aspect.

a full ride to georgetown, i cant imagine passing that up. while it might be easier to get a's at umcp, even in gemstone, an a at georgetown will mean more. plus the campus is prettier.

you are obviously smart, don't you think that G-town is better than UMD?? I see absolutely no reason if there is no financial difference that you would go to UMD. Unless you like the feel of UMD better and would be happier but even then I would say G-town.

Georgetown.

i heard gtown was gloomy.

but, it is however, a REALLY good school.

do yourself a favor and go to GEORGETOWN!!

Georgetown isn't gloomy, whatever that means.

It has probably one of the best campuses I've ever seen, not to mention top notch academics.

It comes down to what you want.

Sheer reputation? Go with Georgetown. Its a gigantic name and resume builder.

Quality? Probably even. Maryland, a major AAU university, has excellent profs and fine facilities. But like practically all state universities not named William & Mary, there's an impersonal side as well as a lot of students who get in who couldn't sniff an elite school like Georgetown. State Us give you something of a watered down product, but overall, there are pluses with the bigness. But w/ Gemstone, an excellent honors residential college-type program, you get the scale and quality of what a Georgetown gives you, with the fun only a big, major State U can give you.

Money? If Georgetown can't come through w/ the FA to even the playing field w/ Maryland, I'd go w/ UMD/Gemstone.

well, i've never been to gtown. i just have friends who go there. so whatever i write, it isn't my opinion, it's just to help bdibble out. so, gloomy or not, it's just what i've heard..never said it was 100% true, though.

full rides to both? I'd be at Georgetown in a split second.

definitely georgetown. you obviously have to work hard, but gtown and it's area would provide internships (as my friend did at gtown hospital) and plus if you really study hard and intend on going to med school, doesn't gtown have a guaranteed prgm thing where you go straight to gtown med? (which would be sweeeet) anyways yeah i say georgetown.

Hello. Would you guys who have been invited to UMD Gemstone please reply, and state whether or not you will accept the invitation?

Georgetown is the clear choice, its better academically and much more desirable in terms of its location and environs. M Street vs. Route 1? Hmm. let me see....
