According to Business Week, the list goes Nova (11 nationally), UNC-Chapel Hill (13 nationally), and then Georgetown (24 nationally). I’d say that Georgetown and UNC are academically more prestigious than Nova, though.

UNC would probably win out in the quality of life category, as it is the least expensive of the three and it is much less stressful (and less expensive) in the Chapel Hill-Raleigh-Durham area than it is in DC or Philly.

He may not be the standard, but I think it’s still noteworthy that a billionaire real estate tycoon opted to send his kids to Georgetown for undergrad. Georgetown is an all around great school, I’d go there over the other options in a heartbeat.

Gordon, my father and sister are Georgetown alums. I attended Georgetown Prep. Trust me, I am very familiar with Georgetown. It is indeed a great university. But like I said, it is no better than UNC. Those two are peer universities in every sense of the word.

Georgetown is stronger in SFS (no equivalent at UNC) and law. Those are Georgetown’s significant strengths, and it milks them for all they’re worth.

UNC is stronger in business, arts & sciences, medicine, and nursing.

It also has other highly regarded schools – dentistry, library/information science (#1), education, journalism, public health (#2), pharmacy (#2), and social work (#8) – that Georgetown lacks entirely.

Prestige would go to Georgetown. Quality of life would go to UNC.
