In terms of internships, Georgetown has a few things going for it. If you are interested in policy or politics, you can’t beat our location in DC. Many students intern in Congressional offices during the school year. You not only get more experience, but the competition is less fierce and you don’t have to suffer through humid DC summers. The same can be said for nonprofit internships.

If you are interested in Wall Street, Georgetown is pretty much unbeatable. All of the large firms recruit here. We are typically at least one of their top 3 feeder schools. There are also internships available during the school year since many of the firms have offices in DC.

I am not a big Hoya myself. But during my interviews with firms, being a Hoya meant a lot. We’re a strong network.

I would also say that the culture here at Georgetown is very different from Cornell. Certainly the weather and nightlife is better Come to a GAAP weekend if you can.

i am definitelly coming to a GAAP. and going to some cornell days. hopefuly i fall in love with one so this decision becomes easier…

oh, and thanks for all your help JCM and firefly :D

@stupefy…I see you have decided on Williams. I truly wish you the best of luck there and a happy and productive 4 years.

^Thank you so much! :D

after visiting both schools, I am again on the fence
Before I visited williams, I was 90% sure I was going. I came out 75% sure.
After visiting georgetown, I am now 50/50

I just feel like I fit in so much better with the gtown kids. They’re more sociable, outgoing, friendly, and their interests align much better with mine. I love the ECs (the corp, GUSA, college dems, etc)

I have some serious thinking to do

gtown. sheerly because there are more option and more things to do. esp since you feel you fit in well. also, better job placement

Glad to hear you were impressed with Georgetown Stupefy. Madhukar, did you decide on Cornell???

yeah, kinda. i want to go to cornell but it wont happen. they aren’t giving even a dollar in financial aid and gtown’s giving me 50k a year in financial aid (their largest possible package). so im probably going to Gtown, which i also love.

its because my permanent resident status is complicated. its been approved but i dont have the actual greencard yet. but i have an email from USCIS saying that its been approved. originally, no college was giving me money. but when my dad talked to Georgetown, Villanova, and NYU about the situation, they accepted the email as proof of permanent residency after confirming it with USCIS. they all gave me their max finaid package. but Cornell is being unreasonable. they only accept a greencard as proof. i’ve appealed to everyone i possibly could have, other than the president of Cornell lol.

stupefy, you can’t make a wrong choice. Georgetown and Williams are both excellent schools! If you’re looking for a school in an engaging location, then Gtown is it. But don’t be fooled by Williams’ location – I have heard that the kids out in Western Mass have plenty fun, but it just depends on what you’re looking for. I think if you want a majority of your time to be spent doing campus-oriented activities, then Williams is prime. But if you seek a balance between on-campus and off-campus activities, then I would go with Georgetown.
Maybe I’ll see you in the fall at DC! Hoya Saxa '14
