Georgetown Weekly Summer Programs?

Georgetown is my first choice school and I'm really interested in attending one of their weekly programs this summer. I will be a senior this fall 2012 and I'm very high up in my class, top 5 with a GPA of 4.49. I am most interested in the creative writing, international relations, and american politics but I have a lot of questions.

International Relations or Politics : While I am passionate about learning a lot about IR or politics, I don't have the strongest base on it. Are a lot of the people who go there already pretty knowledgeable about the subject? Is it rigorous? Will I feel a little, well, stupid if I don't know about politics or IR? I'm interested in learning it and I'll work very hard, but I'm worried these two programs require previous knowledge.

Creative Writing : though I've heard nothing but good things about the IR and Politics, I really haven't heard much about creative writing. Is it worth the $2400? Is it not as good as the IR and politics? Was the experience worthwhile, were the people pretty friendly? I love creative writing but I really need some feedback on whether or not this creative writing is worth it.

Any other input on the Georgetown summer programs is appreciated!

Well, I am also currently a junior and last year I went to the week long sports industry management institute and it was definitely worth it! They get you with many people in the field you are looking at,and then you do a capstone at the end. It was definitely worth it in my opinion. We also went on field trips off campus almost everyday, like to the Under Armor headquarters and National Park. That one week at Georgetown, I met many people that I will remain life long friends with, and it made me decide that Georgetown is my dream school! Since you are looking at IR and politics I’m sure you will go on really cool field trips! You will also get a ton of free time to explore the area with friends which is really fun. If you would like to attend Georgetown, it is definitely worth it to see the area around campus!

Thanks for your input! It’s my dream school too! I’m guessing your friends were nice? Were the professors pretty knowledgeable?

Did you think that you needed, like, prior knowledge of your program, sport industry management, to begin with? Or did you learn a lot as you were there?

They were! Wow! Some of the nicest people I have ever met! And the professors, very knowledgeable! They were some of the highest respected Sports Businesspeople in Washington DC! And I knew a lot about SIM before I went to GTown last summer, but I don’t think a deep prior knowledge is necessary… I mean I wouldn’t go not knowing anything, but I definitely learned a lot while I was there!
