Im a junior in highschool, and im looking at colleges and so far i really like GSU and UGA. My GPA & SAT scores are good enough for GSU but not quite good enough for UGA. I still have a year left so im going to try and bring my GPA up, also im going to retake the SAT probably about 2 more times. But what i really wanna know is what are the pros and cons of going to both schools? GSU seems like a good school but it's just so easy to get into unlike UGA

First of all, Georgia State and UGA have very similar acceptance rates - it’s 54% at GSU and 55% at UGA. That’s why I think this is a good place to insert that a university’s acceptance rate is not necessarily the best indicator of the school’s quality, since schools can have different reasons for having a lower or higher acceptance rate than one might expect.

UGA offers the more stereotypical “traditional college experience” - big sports, traditional campus in a college town. It’s a residential campus, meaning most students live on campus and are probably around on the weekends for partying and tailgating and all that. Georgia State is primarily a commuter campus; most students are from the surrounding suburbs of Atlanta and drive in for classes. GSU is also more diverse because of that; 40% of GSU students are African American, 31% white, 11% Asian, 9% Hispanic/Latino. UGA is three-quarters white with small percentages of the other groups. Both are overwhelmingly GA state students, but UGA students come from all over the state. They’re both good schools, they just have different student bodies and experiences. I do get the sense, though, that UGA has a better reputation (both in-state and nationally - I’m from Georgia btw).

If you like the atmosphere/idea of UGA but want to apply to a less competitive campus, you might be interested in Georgia Southern - it’s also a residential, traditional college with big sports, but it’s a bit smaller than UGA and a bit less selective. You may also be interested in Georgia College & State University; it’s GA’s public liberal arts college; it’s easier to get into than UGA but the students are roughly comparable.

Okay so like in your opinion which school would you choose? And what school do you attend or attended?
