@Xboxgamergirl I believe the minimum was a 4 on the AB test or a 3 on the BC. I did get an A. They also looked at SAT scores which was probably what helped me. And yeah hopefully they don’t weigh ECs as much as test scores, rigor, and gpa though they will consider them.
@dcplanner no we don’t use naviance but I know I’m at the top as far as gpa goes. I think my recs were good (haven’t seen them) so hopefully I’ll be fine
A friend’s nephew from Alpharetta high received a letter from Tech before Thanksgiving break. He is under legacy, grandparents, parents, all were tech alumni. It was not an acceptance letter but kind of like the likely or if you decide to attend tech kind of letter. He was offered scholarships as well. His stats is high. His top choice is Notre Dame (sister is there now). Not an athlete, just legacy. So for those who have legacy as hook, you are in good shape!
Too bad we have no legacy in the picture!
@anotherdude I don’t have the answer, that was the only case I heard first hand regarding legacy besides the one Athlete from my son’s high school who was already offered an admission to tech a couple months ago. She is a track runner and her stats is high as well.
@sunbeams Athletes do get likely letters and financial offers early from GT commonly but they say legacy does not matter any more for GT. We do have a number of immediate family members who are alumni including some who donate generously and even Presidential Scholars but no letter here and my son has very high stats for GT. When we directly asked about scholarships (we did get a special tour based on alumni) we’ve been told unless you have financial need that there are few and they are awarded based on very specific parameters including filling out an application and are competitive in nature. So unless the person is some type of very special case like an athlete or living in poverty I would think the scholarship was a possibility not an offer. GT isn’t like other schools that automatically consider you for all the scholarships you have to apply and some you have to be invited to apply.
Lots of the wording in these letters seems to be intentionally imprecise. If they are GA residents are some automatic state scholarships too. I’ve seen one letter for an athlete this year and he is getting out of state tuition waived and a very small amount of money but hasn’t been officially accepted yet I guess he has to wait for the 9th too. I wish they would waive out of state for more people though but I guess they are getting high quality people without it.
@dcplanner Yes, GA residents get the HOPE and ZELL MILLER scholarships. ZELL MILLER covers all of in-state tuition at most in-state public universities and HOPE 75 to 80% of in-state tuition at in-state public universities.
I haven’t heard anything about likely letters before the EA date. However remember that if you are a legacy and you aren’t accepted you have an automatic conditional transfer after one year IF you meet the requirements.
Stories I hear could be completely untrue, but there was one dude the GA Tech twitter retweeted saying he was accepted back in early November ( https://twitter.com/GeorgiaTech/status/661344782250323968 ). And I heard through a mutual friend that Tech denied another student at my school. So, I’m tending to believe that the “Decision made” statuses in buzzport are acceptances, no clue though - I’m still pending.
He is a transfer student from UTC according to his twitter. They must have a different process/dates. Right now the only freshmen that should be “admitted” are athletes who signed letters on the first NLI day which was November 11th.
We will all have “file under review” until December 26thish. That is when they will lock buzzport to get ready for admission decisions. Got this info from tech admission rep
