@ifizzle321 Did you find that on your buzzport because mine doesn’t say anything.
@Xboxgamergirl -when son went to admission event the director of admissions said that their current student statistics are 50% Georgia, 40%, OOS, and 10% international. Assuming that is somewhat representative of admission acceptance rate.
Did anyone’s Buzzport actually change yet?
It still says “file under review” for me, but when I click on “application details,” a new row shows up under personal info: “classification for fee payment.” This definitely wasn’t there last time I checked.
@glasshours I see that as well. But i think it was there from before. But if you are sure that you didn’t see it from before, then I guess you are right.
But I guess I wouldn’t read into it. Its probably just a way to classify in state and out of state residents.
Ugh, the closer and closer it gets to January 9th, the more and more I doubt the application I sent in.
Same ^^^ I had someone tell me in front of my parents that I had no chance of making it in
^^^ What a jerk.
I know all you guys and gals are nervous, and it seems like this is a life altering moment. College is a big deal, but the big deal is what you put into it, wether at Gtech or elsewhere. My husband years ago was offered MIT and due to funds went to Auburn. No merit aid back then. He, another Auburn grad, and a Mississippi State grad are now owners of a successful defense company. They hire from many state schools, including Gtech. They think many Gtech grads are excellent engineers, (and if you doubt it just ask them and they will tell you how great they are). However they hire from many great state schools. So, remember you control your own destiny wether at Tech or elsewhere! No one school will define your future.
Hey does anyone know how much weight GT puts on essays? Cuz I’m not so great at them… I’m OOS btw Otherwise I have a 4.35 GPA Weighted and a 3.8 UW and a 2380. I reeeeally want to go here, so what do you guys think on my shot here?
@Fireball99 with an SAT score like that you’d probably need a really awful essay to get rejected. I wouldn’t worry about it.
@GreenBackpack Even if I’m out of state? cuz that’s what I’m primarily worried about. Thanks!
@glasshours, the Classification for Fee Payment has been there on my daughter’s page all along.
@Momof3kidsau, Amen! This pool of EA applicants at GaTech is surely strong, proving you all have worked incredibly hard academically. You have put in the time and effort and made the sacrifices needed to be prepared to apply to these top colleges early. I have watched my son work hard and study while his friends played around. He has made his academic career a priority, and it hasn’t always been fun or easy, all while serving the community and playing sports for EC’s. Whatever the outcome, you ALL deserve recognition for your efforts. Very well done!! (Standing Ovation!!). As Momof3kidsau said, do not let other people’s opinions and these decisions define you!
I’m in the exact opposite situation that @Fireball99 is in, haha. I have a 4.0 unweighted, a decent number of APs, and essays that I felt were really good (I really enjoy writing, so I spent a lot of time on them). My SAT score isn’t incredible, though; I scored in the lower-middleish range on math and CR, and they don’t care about the writing score, the one section I actually did well in.
I mean, I got 800s on all my subject tests, but Tech doesn’t look at those for admissions, right?
Depends what you mean by “decent number of APs” @glasshours what was your SAT score? And Tech does use SAT subjects btw. I took 6 APs and got 5s on them, but I’ll have 13 when I graduate, cuz 7 this year. Also got a 1600 CR+M here. Hey can anyone tell me if my unweighted GPA is too low? It’s a 3.8, but I’m OOS, and weighted is 4.35 with max rigor
Also, can someone PM to get a neutral opinion on my essays? I’m really not entirely sure how good they are.
@Fireball99 A question of 10 more days to go…enjoy the holiday season and concentrate on how to get back to school and worry about not developing senioritis next semester. If you still want someone to read your essays once you are back at school…think about the deadline just a couple of days away… ;
Before you even know it, you will hear your decision…
I hope everyone hears a happy decision, as it will start their new year with joy!
Does Tech defer applications by the TON like Michigan or do they mostly either admit or Deny the EA applicants? Observations?
@desiindian597 its hard to say, but they do defer. I went to a campus visit where in their presentation I remember them saying that alot of students get deferred. But at the same time they accept a large percentage of applications.
If you see the people on cc from last year (class of 2019), you can see that most were accepted, a portion was denied, and little were differed. But then there is a bias because not all are equally represented on cc.
My MIT interviewer was telling me (she had experience with tech in the past) that what tech does, unlike MIT, is that it first separates applications by numeric scores. So what it will do is the computer will pick out applications that fall in a specific range of GPA and sat score. (she said to keep in mind that the range for GPA is probably around a 3.7 and on , while sat is 1800 and higher). Then they go through those applications and decide. Then they take a look at the ones that fell under the ranges and make decisions on them.
I honestly dont know of thats true, but the person went to MIT and had experience with tech, so…
Also I saw that on last years discussion that basically some people with a 3.7 and below were denied and deferred (with few exceptions) and some people with 2300 SAT’s and 4.0 gpas were denied or deferred as well.
All in all, you don’t really know. It could change this year-who knows. All we can do is wait for the 9th and believe in ourselves.
