@Xboxgamergirl A 2160 SAT is strong and should allow you to “check off” the testing box for admission to GT. But, based on recent year’s admissions, that alone is not enough to get you into Tech. If you have a GPA near 4.0, have taken the most difficult courses at your school, and have strong and unique ECs, you’re probably good. My D is a first year at GT and I personally know several students from her high school class that had a 34 ACT (which converts to over 2160 SAT), over a 3.9 weighted GPA and 8+ AP courses. They also had good, though not spectacular, ECs. And they did not get into Tech. Her best friend (with these stats) was deferred to RD, waitlisted, extended waitlisted and never admitted. We are instate and my D graduated from a large suburban Atlanta school which offers 30 AP courses. And therein lies the problem. Your application will be reviewed within the context of your high school and the resources available to you - and in comparison to other applicants from your school. This means that students from schools with fewer academic resources may be accepted with lower credentials than those from competitive high schools. Taking 5 or 6 AP classes at a school offering 8 is great. Taking 8 AP classes at a school that offers 30 is not as impressive. Many people believe that it’s easier to get into GT if you’re from Georgia (since such a high number of admission offers are required to go to Georgia residents). But, they don’t realize that it’s become quite difficult to get into Tech because SO many students from Georgia apply for admission. You are competing against so many more people. I know there will be comments regarding the quality of Georgia students. Don’t believe them. The Georgia students that apply to Tech are generally very strong students. My D’s graduating class sent students to all the Ivies, Stanford, MIT, etc. and they all also applied to GT. Best of luck to you!!!
@3567monroe , @Hermit9 - thanks for your feedbacks and responses. I do have a 3.88 GPA, I have taken 12 AP classes…that too the really hard ones. I have strong extra curricular: Speech captain, dance teacher, elementary certified drug teacher, stuco president, engineer awards, honor societies, international dance and martial arts championships. And I have a plenty of more. So I’m not essential worried about the extracurricular. My essay was strong as well. It was about my religious diversity and how I faced the challenge of criticism.
I have, though, moved the first three years of my high school career. So I dont know how they will view that
Please let me know what you think considering the factors that i have listed above
Do you mean that you moved to three different locations and three different schools? Moved to three schools within the same town? I don’t necessarily think that will make a difference as long as your academic progress, strength of curriculum, EC involvement, etc. was consistent. Especially if moves were a result of family relocations. Is the 3.88 GPA weighted or unweighted? Do you have work experience to include on your application? Also, have you sent AP scores - and any SAT II scores -to GT? I know they are not required, however GT admissions state that they will include them in a holistic review of your application. AP and SAT II scores are on their list of factors considered for admission. If they’re good, I see know reason not to send them. They can only help.
@3567monroe , yeah. 3 different states with 3 different schools. I did include work experience. I taught dance, I tutored …so its kinda self employed kinda thing. I also included internships with university of MN, FOX, and navicure. My 3.88 is the cumulative, as my school only reports that one and gt will look at that, since they don’t recalculate. I did have some family circumstances that prevented me from performing my best my junior year. And I explained that as well. I did send in my AP scores, but they weren’t necessarily the best. I have fours, fives, threes, and honestly one one. My fours and fives were all for math(calculus). Now, I only was in the intention to send in the math one, but somehow all my scores got there. (counselor maybe). I haven’t taken the sat 2’s yet.
Also, @3567monroe and everyone else:
On my buzzport, there is a message that says “AP (Advanced Placement) scores do not display via this Application Status Check page as they are not required for an admission decision.”
What does that mean? Do they not look at AP scores for admission purposes? If they do-then will they have a make or break factor on my admission, particularly if the scores of some tests were not so good. Like my previous post, I only sent in my math ones (where I got a 4 and 5). But somehow my us history, com scie, and geography appeared. And I didn’t get too good of a score on them.
Does GT Superscore ACT? I sent two separate tests but my subscores online only show the highest subscores within a single test.
Also, should I send my official AP scores? Will that make my application look stronger?
@christlin81 Yes, they superscore ACT.
So on Buzzport, it says that my high school transcript is missing. My counselor stated that she mailed all the information to Georgia Tech around the beginning of October. Should I wait a bit more or contact G-Tech to see if I should resend my transcript?
The AP scores are not required for an admission decision, so they would not be displayed on an Application Status page. However, GT lists both AP and SAT Subject test scores among their admission factors. I don’t think they are a make or break factor, just a piece of the puzzle. I remember that my daughter’s scores did eventually show up on Buzzport, but it may have been after she was admitted since she was allowed to use those scores for course credit.
@SH44395 E-mail your guidance counselor and get her to resend your transcript. I also got a message today saying part of my transcript was missing. I just e-mailed my GC and she said CommonApp was having a problem and that she’d resend mine.
Anyone here whose BuzzPort still says the Test scores are missing? I hope it’ll be uploaded to the system soon…
Here. I just got my test scores yesterday, so I am hoping my “missing” will go away in a week or so.
@Bizziee Mine does. But that is probably because my ACT score report will only be sent after the Writing score comes out. I had sent in my SAT 2s a long time back.
Does anyone know how long it takes for the scores (SAT) to get to the college?
From another discussion: Collegeboard is having difficulties sending the scores. They have emailed all colleges with the NOV 1 deadline to inform this issues. if you did a RUSH reporting and the tests were not sent in within two days, then you can get a refund by calling them.
I don’t think you should stress about scores getting to tech within the week/days so much because the admission counselors have said that they just need everything by the 1st week of December.
My thoughts are that collegeboard will first send out all the pending orders for the NOV 1 deadline, so no student gets deffered. I think, they then will send out the other scores.
Smart of Georgia Tech to make their deadline Dec. 1 for issues such as this.
Is it cool if I get chanced really quickly?
SAT scores came back and my score was not as high as I anticipated. I got a 2000 flat (690 M, 680 R, 630 W) and it’s kinda scaring me. My GPA is very high (3.97 UW & 4.47 W) and my ECs are pretty good (lots of leadership stuff, started my own business, several national, state, and regional recognitions/awards) and I sent in a teacher recommendation as well, although it wasn’t required. You still think my chances are pretty good? GT is my #1 right now. I am African American and in-state if that helps.
@orjioke33 Your 2 score is high relative to your composite (which is still good for in-state), you have a great GPA, solid ECs from what you’re saying, and you’re a URM. I’d be shocked if you didn’t get in.
Hey! I did EA to GA Tech on Oct 7th. I am an Indian female and I applied to computer engineering. Here are my stats— ACT 33C(35 M + 33 Sc + 34 Reading + 31 E). GPA (UW 4.0-97% numeric). I did the first 2.5 years of my high school in India so, I only have 6 AP and DE classes. I have leadership positions from India and am a part time tutor. I am in-state and my GT counselor knows that I have a special transfer case (if that helps). Chance me!
Also, I checked with a link that has been provided in this discussion and it said that my decision would be out on Nov. 2nd. Is this true?
@CHCollege123 , hey! I went to school in India too! But for 3rd grade. I cant chance you since I have no experience with GT admissions. But I can say that the deadline you heard is false. Early decision acceptance letters come out on January 9th. However, I have heard they are trying to do it a little more early (last week of December). But I would stick with the January 9th, since thats what it says on their website.
