@Xboxgamergirl Well, I’m sorry. I wasn’t even that sad when finding out I got denied, but seeing all of you with 2100+ SATs and 35 ACTs not being granted admissions is quite astonishing for me… But oh well, whatever you end up doing and wherever you end up going, good luck and you’ll do fine anyhow. Remember that a college can only offer so much, it’s up to the person to take full advantage of it.
As for me… Off to the LONE STAR STATE! WOO!
Accepted: 1860 SAT (640 M, 640 CR, 580 W), 2.7 GPA (I have a legitimate reason), Solid ECs. I’m proud to be able to finally tell others that you CAN do it, even with low stats!
Edit: I also count as OOS for admissions purposes.
@Connorelsea , e mail your admissions counselor. I believe there will be a name listed for your region in your Buzzport. My daughter had to update a couple of things via e mail, and got a personal response back quickly.
Accepted! Chinese Computer Engineering SAT 2300 SAT2 2390(Math 800 Phy 800 Chem 790) GPA(95/100)
Does legacy play a huge role? I’m honestly so surprised I got in
Accepted
Asian (adopted) female, OOS, Biomedical engineering,
SAT 2140 (710CR, 680M, 750W)
no SAT IIs
no community service
ECs: VP of German honor society, founded a fitness and health club, snhs, mhs, hosa
awards: 1st place at a physics competition, national German exam honorable mention, junior marshal, ap scholar
AP: 8 APs by end of senior year
I wrote my common app essay about struggling with an eating disorder, and my counselor focused a lot on the fitness club I started in my recommendation. AP Physics 2 teacher wrote my teacher rec but I had to waive.
My dad graduated in 1984 for M.E.
I’m really surprised I got in! I’m so so happy though… GT has been my dream school for so long. The only problem for me is dropping up to 50k a year on tuition and other things, bc I am getting close to full rides to other great schools… hoping I make the right decision here…
@Xboxgamergirl So sorry to hear that your application was incomplete because of a missing teacher recommendation. Was it just downloaded late into the system so you didn’t make the EA deadline for Tech, or was it never get added? Hoping that did not affect other schools you applied to through common app!
@Hermit9 Congratulations! So happy and proud of you! Good luck at Tech!
@Xboxgamergirl Once you have your app completed, you’ll get accepted comes March 12th!
I was looking for both of you yesterday. Glad to find you again this morning! My S is deferred. He is disappointed but I think I am taking it harder than him!
@MexitalianMom Congrats to your son! Is GT is his first choice as of now?
@NCengineer Maybe some, but your application sounds really interesting and good.
@sunbeams Sorry to hear about S, hoping for that acceptance come March.
@SouthFloridaMom9 Sorry to hear the news but from the way you have described your son, he will do well wherever he goes! Where is his first choice of college at the moment?
Aw, @RugbyDude6 sorry! Maybe if you went to South… jk :)) You have great stats and I can’t imagine you not getting in RD. Keep your chin up!
And South still has better SAT & ACT scores, its the Milestones! just a ~.3 difference…
@sunbeams sorry about your S deferral (this whole process seems harder on me than my S) GT has been his dream school since we moved to Georgia 8 yrs ago. We even bought him a GT hoodie (men’s L) way back then that he wore for the first time yesterday.
To those Asian male deferred with good stats for Computer (engineering / CS) - my theory is that these 2 majors are pretty competitive to get in. As you may know there have been and still is a great push to include girls (women in computing etc.) to bring more diversity into the tech world. That explains why many girls get in with similar stats when boys get deferred. Now, about the OOS with good stats, essays, ECs, recommendations, and deferred - did you all visit the campus? I am wondering if visiting will help to gain an edge in the RD.
To those with high scores 36, 35 and denied, if you really want to attend, don’t you have the option to appeal the decision?
@Xboxgamergirl
I know I’ve been out of the loop since I decided To withdraw my application from tech but your comment caught my attention today. Kudos to you for moving on and taking initiative!
I am Emory bound and I just wanted to let you know that you shouldn’t keep the “sticker price” of the school keeping you from going to Emory. I was worried about the financial aid too when I took a risk and applied ED(which is binding). But when I got my package I was overcome with joy because it has to be the most fair thing I’ve seen recently in this world. I got an aid package estimate that is within my family’s capability but not to the point where I can’t appreciate all that’s being given to me. Keep in mind that Emory is 100% covered for domestic students who demonstrate financial need. If you show you have need, they will get you the money. That being said, good luck and I’m sure you will have a great experience wherever you end up going.
Another thing for everyone to think about, do not beleive that private schools are always more expensive than public schools. I was also accepted to Ga state’s honors college and I would have to pay almost double of what I have to pay emory if I were to go to GSU, although GSU’s sticker price is a fraction of the cost to go to Emory. Again, just a thing to keep in mind. And congrats to everyone who was accepted to Tech!!!
PS: I live in Forsyth too, but I go to North where practically no one else even thought to apply (just one friend who did RD but isn’t going to go because she got a full ride somewhere else)
um…I got in. computer engineering. not expecting much though.
anyone?? should i go to UMich or Georgia Tech?? Which school is better for computer engineering??
@Hermit9 lol, monsters inc. I needed that.
@MexitalianMom yeah, I went down yesterday. I don’t know how they didn’t get it, it confused me because I thought my teacher said she submitted her rec. But I heard about how South’s email system blocks e- mails sometimes. My com scie teacher was telling me that he didn’t get one my awards notification because of their email system, and so I had to email it to his personal email. That honestly sucks tho. I’m gonna have to check through all my other applications as well. But I don’t know if that is the main cause. I’m gonna have to investigate a little more I asked my chem teacher ( I was gonna ask ms. sikes (calc) teacher - and I regret not asking her, but oh well). Was your son in AB/BC last year? Thanks, haha- yeah crazy defines me I guess- but honestly I’ll do whatever it takes.
@Pepenn123 idk what you should do, but I emailed my counselor (I didn’t look at the DSF until I got back from tech- otherwise I would have asked at tech). I’ll let you know when he responds (mnday probably)
@Momof3kidsau actually, see I never received emails notifying me of the missing recs, and I’m pretty sure that when I went in, I saw a check mark by teacher recs- but idk honestly. I’m just trying to focus on what to do now. Whatever it will take to get in, I’ll do it.
@GoodGrief16 haha thank you, I honestly feel a little careless that I didn’t pay enough attention to all this. But hopefully RD will be better.
@honeyclover haha, well…you gotta do what you gotta do I guess. Well we have another chance, lets make the best of it
@GustafAngus yeah, I was shocked as well- so what college are you looking into now?
@4kids2graduate I honestlty did not look too much into it (I was so disappointed at the time), the guy read the note to me from his desk and said that I was missing a teacher rec, so they decided to shift me into RD. I am checking through all the common apps and emailing all other colleges to make sure that they received them in the right condition.
@sunbeams haha, yup- i’m back. I was kind of soaking everything that happened yesterday in, which is why I didn’t respond right away. But I hope I get in RD.
@MexitalianMom lol, if you went to south- well gotta say ALOT of my friends got deferred and rejected, so I am not sure if South is the best place to be to apply for tech. SO MANY APPLY. Yeah, I have a GT teddy bear- hoping that I won’t have to take of its GT shirt later in March
Thank you @GoodGrief16 - your post was nice to read. You totally “get” that homeschooling mama angst.
@sunbeams - no final decisions have been made, but DS is very interested in UA, where he has full tuition covered. Personally I think he loves the dining hall the most, and the suite style honors dorms. He has 4 good options so far, all with merit and/or Bright Futures, and I think 2 more schools will come in. Can’t complain. L-)
How about you - where are you guys leaning?
@ismitah haha thanks for coming back, and congrats on emory. I am pretty interested in Emory and might attend if I get in RD (they have a math and stat major)
. How is the campus (pictures on google don’t make sense to me). Have u visited GT’s campus and Emory’s? Is it kinda like GT’s? Honestly, I want to attend a school in downtown- kinda like GT- but I want it to have a stat major as well. If Emory has a downtown/lively feeling to it, then I am definitely in!
@SouthFloridaMom9 GT is still top choice here so praying for news of acceptance in March.
@Ryud16 I’m in the same predicament. I’ve been accepted into UMich and GTech so far for Computer Science. I Think you just have to tour both if you haven’t already. For me, I think Michigan is the better choice for my field after touring it multiple times. But, then again, I haven’t toured GTech yet.
