I will pray for that too @sunbeams! :bz Your student is still in the game - that’s awesome!
@Xboxgamergirl the campus is, in my opinion, very different from the GT campus and other downtown campuses.
Emory is a very nurturing and large community and that’s why I love it so much, it’s not like the poli-sci ppl stick to themselves and pre law ppl stick to themselves.
Their campus is in the heart of midtown so it has a downtown feel but when you are on campus, sometimes it doesn’t feel like you’re in the heart of Atlanta all the time. It’s so green and lush there’s many places to find that are quiet and serene. But I’m a city girl and I find that emory is the perfect location because it’s really safe while also being super accessible. They have a great transportation system and the campus is huge. Theres great shopping and food around there and it’s faster to get to, Im pretty sure, than GT from here.
Also, the food at Emory has to be the best campus food I’ve ever had. Theyre always changing to be more sustainable and local and they changed to Bon Appetit (and it’s even better than before)
@austrie Congratulations on your acceptance! I’m so happy for you and for the fact that you give me hope. GaTech is my dream school, but my UW GPA is not up to par. Thank you so much for your post!
@Xboxgamergirl no way someone with missing stuff (usually) gets in early. They wanna make sure you have the rec. You have another chance. Being a female with your stats, I’m sure you’ll get in. Make sure you get that rec in. Good Luck! I know it’s a little rough, but I think you will get in regular. Just fill in the gaping hole, and in you’re case, it’s not overly hard.
@Xboxgamergirl I’m looking at UT, A&M, Clemson. I REALLY wanna study in the south, I’ve had the time of my life in the south when I went to visit Georgia, Alabama, Texas etc…
However, I am now looking towards other schools in the north aswell (Purdue, Penn state, etc, even though I’m late to apply there, but oh well). I have been accepted to Texas Tech in October (Auto admit), but I haven’t heard anything back from UT or A&M, even though I applied to A&M on August 28th, which is pretty dang early if you ask me. So now I’m kinda panicking about being denied from A&M , since their engineering spots get filled up quick and I haven’t even been accepted to A&M in general…
Anyway good luck, and if you find yourself still sad about being deffered, just listen to some country.

I thought my essays were decent. My Common App essay was about my passion for makeup as an alternative art form. I cited specific programs and opportunities at GA Tech (and since I’ve wanted to go there for a long time, I made sure to come off very passionate about attending). For the unbound future one I talked about going into pharmaceutical chemistry and wanting to make marketable medicine more affordable for those who are in desperate need of it.
Anyways, I’m very excited to have been accepted to my first choice school!
Note:GA Tech hasn’t released information on Presidential yet, and I haven’t got scholarships except for Zell Miller and Hope, but I still really want to go. I was offered automatic acceptance to UGA’s Honors Program and rewarded the Charter Scholarship, so I should have incentive to attend UGA, but they aren’t exactly what I’m looking for and GA Tech is.
Good luck to everyone applying RD!
Edit: My twin sister also got accepted! One of friends was admitted on the summer short session and one was deferred. These are the only people I actually know of so far.
@studyislife I am an Asian female, and I was accepted with a 31. Don’t give up hope! Just keep the grades up, and you still have plenty of time to get the scores up if needed.
@Xboxgamergirl if you go to this link http://admission.gatech.edu/application-updates and click on the link that talks about Georgia Tech allowing only one teacher recommedation it states the following:
Recommendations are an optional factor for admission, and, for this reason, we are not able to accommodate changes in our office. One recommendation letter will not make or break your admission application!
I am letting you know this because it seems from this a teacher recommendation would not make or break your application, and you might want to be sure and check with your admission counselor to make sure the information you where given was correct.
I am a mom, so much older than you, but I can tell you will do great wherever you end up at college because the truth is college is what you put into it, not what it puts into you!!
@Momof3kidsau hmm…thats weird. Well, i got an email from my counselor today saying the rec was missing and they moved me to RD. They said they could not access the content. I wonder why they said that if a rec is not required. I will ask him this asap. Thanks for letting me know. You brought up a very great, but questionable point!
@GustafAngus good luck to u too! I dont like country, I’m more of a dubstep/trance person lol.
@soorvora yeah, thats true. Because other colleges got that rec, now why did tech not get it is my question. What does it mean when they Say that it “was not accessible”. Maybe they r giving me q chance to fill up that gap, and I will definitely do it! Thanks!
Does anybody know who I should contact to find out what my weaknesses were to be deferred? I really want to attend GT, and I want to do great on the Deferred Supplements. Thanks!
@ChocolateCoin there are deferred supplements? Is this for just GT or other colleges too? Also, they probably won’t tell you anything. I called Cornell’s office of admissions because I was deferred, and they told me nothing.
@soorvora the deferred supplements are available if you log in through Buzzport. They are due late January if you want to be considered for regular admissions. Also, I heard GT sometimes tell you the reason if you contact. I just don’t know how to though.
When our daughter was deferred in 2014, we contacted her GT admissions counselor. She was extremely helpful and shared specfic facts regarding how our daughter compared to the admitted students from her high school.
@Xboxgamergirl I think @Momof3kidsau actually said "recommendations are an optional factor for admission - I would take that to mean they still require one, but they may or may not “factor” it in when reviewing and making decisions.
Also @Xboxgamergirl - I thought that before the common app is submitted to each school you have to “select” the recommendation letter (or letters) that you want to include. Wouldn’t you have noticed if there was no letter there to select?
@4kids2graduate my teachers did not put in the recommendations at the time, they put it in late- all of them did, my counselor put his rec on Oct 20, while teachers put it in around November 14.
Tech was my first common app, so all I had to do was write their emails (which I did in August) and sign the waiver.
Like I said, I think I’m pretty sure that I saw the check mark on buzzport, I just don’t know why it wasn’t accessible to them at the time of review.
@Xboxgamergirl and @4kids2graduate - Your teacher and counselor recommendations where not late as you only had to submit the application by October 15th, supporting materials where due by December 1rst. So, they sent them in plenty of time. The requirements for teacher recommendations are still very confusing to me, as I read their website. Here is another link about it and note where they say: “IF you choose to submit” (The capitalization is mine to be clear) I am sure that @Xboxgamergirl is being told she needs that teacher recommendation, but the wording sure is vague to me!
Here is the link and the wording in it:
http://admission.gatech.edu/freshman/recommendations:
One (1) teacher recommendation will be considered if you choose to submit this information. Recommendations must be completed through the evaluation form on the Common App or similar. We recommend you ask a teacher of an academic subject (for example, English, math, science, social science, or foreign language) to complete the form as instructed and submit electronically.
Now you have a good story to tell your kids when they are submitting applications.
