***Georgia Tech Class of 2020 EA Applicant Thread***

With the ea acceptance rate being so low this year compared to last year, do you guys think that the overall acceptance rate will be a lot lower than 30%?

@Momof3kidsau I agree with you that this is confusing, and if this is accurate (of course it is- its on their website!!) then I am a little disappointed in my counselors for presenting me with incorrect information.

I emailed my counselor and the dean, and we will see what happens. Unfortunately I cannot drive down tomorrow because I have school!

I know that my teachers the recs on time(before Dec 1st), but I was telling @4kids2graduate that I did not need the recs to turn in my common app, they submitted the recs late in comparison to the common app deadline (meaning that they turned it in after oct 15).

lol, I like how u put ‘1rst’ instead of ‘1st’, it makes a person re-read it like 50 times, its cool- i’ll start writing it that way  - the new style.

I was told to submit a rec for RD and honestly, regardless of what they said about my application being pulled over to RD pool because of a missing rec, I am going to treat it as any deferral. I will still post updates on awards, and I will work to make my deferral application look strong to show my worthiness. I just had a user pm me giving me advise on what to do, and I am going to take that advise and go “the extra mile” to show GT tis my #1 choice.

@Momof3kidsau and @4kids2graduate - I appreciate the fact that you guys are trying to check up on me! It means a lot. But I’m just going to treat it as any deferral and not get overconfident about the fact that one missing rec blew my chances and that by turning in that rec I will get accepted. A deferral is a deferral. There are so many factors that play into it. If they wanted they caould have accepted me (if recommendations were not required, that is). But they didn’t. I was shocked and devastated with the results, but in the end I guess it wasn’t just my day. This time, I am hoping that it will be my day.

Thank you to all of you who responded back to check up on me and encourage me! I appreciate how much of a family u guys r to me! And to those out there, if you have advise or experience or anything you want to share with me, please do so! I appreciate every little advise! Just pm me!!

@classicf LOL, so children, what we learn?? COMPLETE YOUR APPLICATIONS!!!

@Momof3kidsau thanks for that link so I could see the exact wording. It definitely makes it sound optional when they say “will be considered if you choose to submit this information”. Now I do not understand why they did not process @Xboxgamergirl’s application if the recommendation was optional.

@benivor I think from what I have played around with, is that do not go by the percentage, but by the numbers. Georgia tech accepted a similar number of students as they did last year and I think they will keep that trend. I am guessing the number accepted from deferrals will be around the same from last year, which I think will be a 18-19% acceptance this year (if I had the numbers right).

FutureDataScientist

@ChocolateCoin I emailed my counselors (I emailed every single one of them) - some gave me no info, while from others I could tell that they went and looked at my application.

Don’t be afraid, if they say “we can’t tell you”, then insist again, you have to be determined to get what you want. So do whatever you can.

@4kids2graduate I agree with you. It clearly states that it is optional, so why did they tell me that it was because of the recs? We will see tomorrow hopefully

As far as teacher recs being optional, I can attest that they are!! Ds did not have teacher recs, but his counselor did send in a rec. He was admitted even though his stats were lower than many who got referred. I think they saw something unique in his application.

That being said, I suppose its possible that if you check a box or something that you have teacher recs, and then it didnt come in, ad coms might hold off on a decision. Just a thought.

@Xboxgamergirl - you are wise to treat this like a deferral, no matter the reason. You will resolve the confusion quickly once the weekend is over. And, you are going to do great no matter where you go because of your own drive and ambition not because of what it says on your diploma

@d101parent interesting, thanks!

@Momof3kidsau thank you for the kind words!

do you know how to enter your major if its not listed?

@benivor - Class of 2019 had an overall admit rate of 31.2 percent. We are heading in that direction (sub-30s).

2019: EA admit rate of 45%. Averages: SAT 1488/2196, ACT 32.

2020: EA admit rate of 29.7%. Average ACT score: 33. 48% of admits are female, another record.

My son (ethnicity - Asian) is from a top college-prep boarding school and got deferred. His stats are strong, except GPA which isn’t at the top of the class. Perfect SAT score and 800s in SAT 2s. 5 in AP Calc and Physics. Plus Robotics Club Head, etc etc. Quite disappointed. The comments on his deferral note says that they would like to get his Fall term grades from school. Do you know if that’s a standard text or everyone who is deferred gets a very customized reason for deferral? Is there anything he needs to do except having the school send fresh transcript with latest senior year grades for RD?

General Comments: It’s Lit. Was pretty confident in my chances if getting in, but thoroughly concerned about getting any money to outweigh the OOS cost. Deferred from MIT, waiting on Duke, Penn, and UVA. Good luck to those deferred and applying RD, especially all those OOS applicants!

rejected 36, 3.7, 800 M2 sat2, asian male BME with the hardest course rigor, can someone explain why I was rejected and not at least deferred? excellent ec’s, the recs couldn’t have been that bad. Is BME really that competitive?

@james1998iq - On the surface it seems odd however given the holistic nature of the process we would need more info (e.g. Typical listed below) to comment. I imagine you also applied to other selective schools in the EA round. Any consistency on the results ?
