Georgia Tech EA conditional acceptance

Anyone else get conditional acceptance for 2017 Fall and rejected for 2016?

If so, I want to compare stats.

I got that too. White male, 35 ACT composite, 3.95 unweighted and 4.95 weighted, captain of multiple athletic teams and clubs, with good volunteering and leadership programs with mechanical engineering intent. I’m not gonna bother with conditional acceptance though. If I’m not good enough for them now then it’s their loss.

@Grindle- one trend in college admission that is being used more and more is conditional acceptance. This type of acceptance is especially used in the case of applicants with legacy. Colleges know that legacy take it “hard” when they reject or waitlist a legacy applicant so conditional acceptance I believe was developed to deal with those “hard” feelings. For example, my dad both graduated and taught at USC. When my son applied, he was give the same kind of conditional acceptance for his sophomore year. He didn’t take it, but I know others who did. My DS has the same attitude as @JacksonP12. As the legacy baby boomers have their children, the pool of legacy applicants increase to the point that the college can’t accept every legacy applicant. This year GtTonly accepted 41% of legacy applicants (they didn’t give any numbers for conditional acceptances).

The other issue is yield. Colleges know that some freshman will not return for Spring semester or their second year. This has created a whole new area of acceptance known as the “Spring Admit”. Northeastern and UC Berkeley are some of the colleges that use that kind of acceptance. Gt also uses the summer acceptance, but it doesn’t seem like they went that way for EA since I have not heard of any student reporting that kind of acceptance.

@Grindle - I know it is tough getting the conditional acceptance. When my DS applied in 2010- he was rejected from my husband’s alma mater (Yale) and mine (UCLA) as well as my dad’s. My husband’s situation was particularly painful because it was the Alumni Club present for our area and has been involved in the Alumni Club for the past 25 years. If it gives you any comfort, my DS ended up just loving the college he attended and told us many times he was glad he was turned down by those legacy colleges. Your son at least has a great option, he can go to college in Utah at a cheaper rate and then transfer. My DD (a current GT student) has lots of friends who are transfer students. Students at GT are always in a flux- they leave for the semester for co-ops, internships and study abroad so there is no negative association socially or being a transfer student. Good luck with making the decision.

Is conditional acceptance only for family of GA Tech staff/faculty?

No it’s also anyone who has a grandparent, parent or sibling who went or is currently attending GT.

I also got conditional acceptance- 4th generation legacy, links to major contributors to the school as well. I am a white female, 28 ACT composite, 4.0, involved in several national merit honor clubs. I consider myself lucky to have gotten conditional acceptance because my test scores were so below average.

I got a conditional admission… Weighted 3.6 GPA and 2210 SAT, 17 AP/DE courses

Same, 3.9 weighted gpa, low income white & native American in state male. 35 ACT, 11 AP, Questbridge match and prep scholar finalist, decent ECs, strong essays

Got it as well. 3.3 UW 4.1 W. 1 AP course w/ 7 IB courses. Projected to receive diploma. 31 ACT

My dad graduated from GT and I (a white female) was given conditional acceptance. My SAT score is 1850, unweighted GPA is 3.63, weighted GPA is 4.1 and I’ve taken 9 AP classes through out my high school career. I’ve been involved in various clubs, done mission in Africa, in NHS and intend to go Industrial engineering. I was upset at first but I realized that I am very lucky just to have been given a conditional admission with these grades and scores. GT has gotten so competitive it’s crazy!

To meet the conditions of conditional admission…1) Specific courses and 2) GPA of 3.3 , what are the good colleges with a relatively easier grading system to get a higher GPA to meet the condition 2…?
