Please weigh in, visiting the above schools in August. I am legacy at Clemson. Please comment on program assuming COA is the same.
How would COA ever be the same for those four schools? What is your home state?
What type of engineering?
due to various grants and scholarships, I should have said the costs to me is insignificant. Not sure what type of engineering yet. I live in Wisconsin.
Lots of kids say cost is insignificant, until the bill comes. Have you actually discussed the family college budget? I’m not aware of any large grants or scholarships at Georgia Tech for OOS students, other than a handful of extremely competitive awards. You will most likely be paying full OOS cost. Purdue and Clemson have a limited amount of small scholarships for OOS students. They are not automatic, and they only put a small dent in the OOS cost. Alabama, as you probably know, has large automatic scholarships for high stats. What are your stats? When considering schools, what’s important to you?
GT and Purdue offer the most engineering degree programs and are usually at the top of the national rankings. Have you visited any of the schools? It may be easier when you decide which discipline you would like to pursue since some schools are stronger than others in certain areas.
Wisconsin and Minnesota are obvious candidates to put on your list due to in-state and reciprocity tuition.
Other posts by the OP indicate a 3.9-4.0 GPA and 33 ACT.
OP mentioned applying to the Nordstrom scholarship ($10,000, apparently total, not per year).
stats have increased and are currently: 35 ACT, 2360 SAT, gpa 4.9 , 4.1 UW, various science awards, captain of 2 varsity teams, president of student council, etc.
I’m interested in hearing about the engineering programs at the above schools. I have the outside grants and scholarships covered along with parents contribution.
Just curious, if cost is no object, why are you considering Alabama?
Well you can start by reading their web pages.
Why Alabama or Clemson? They are not on par with GTech or Purdue, which are two of the best engineering programs.
Clemson and Alabama are my safeties.
University of Wisconsin is an in-state school. It will be much cheaper and plus it could be one of your safety
I know @NASA2014 I really want to go out of state to get a different experience. I live very close to there and probably half my school goes there.
Updating, Purdue came through with full ride so that’s where I am going. Excited to be a Boilermaker.
Note, however, that Purdue admits to first year engineering; students must complete the prerequisites and then apply to competitive admission to specific engineering majors. Some programs are not at capacity and admit students with GPA >= 2.00 (essentially open). Others may require higher threshold GPAs.

UCB can be such a downer sometimes >:)
Congrats on Purdue!
Well that’s a no brainer. As parent of both Alabama and Georgia Tech engineering students, I say congratulations and Go Boilermakers!

Congrats!
I didn’t know that Purdue gave full rides to OOS students. or was this a full tuition award?
Congrats. Since close to Madison, were you by chance on any TARC (Team America Rocket Challenge) teams in the past?
A friend’s son went to Purdue specifically with some kind of eng entrepreneur type of classes/opportunities.
Sounds like you will do well.
