I am a freshman at UIUC, and planning on transferring to Georgia Tech. I was just wondering how difficult it was and whether I had a shot. I am an electrical engineering major, and I am taking fairly rigorous courses. I am taking Physics Electricity and Magnetism, ECE 110 and 120, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Multi variable Calculus, and Computer Science 101 by the end of my freshman year. I am finished all of the requirements and I am doing the recommended courses as well. How good are my chances?
If you’ve obtained mostly A’s in your coursework, your chances are likely strong. Why would you want to transfer from UIUC to Tech? UIUC is a top engineering school, so the transfer would seem a bit silly to me unless you have very specific reasons for wanting to attend Tech over UIUC?
I agree with InPursuit, UIUC is possibly the best electrical engineering program in the country, with MIT.
Georgia Tech is right up there, as well, but unless you will save money, stay put. Atlanta IS nicer than
Central Illinois though… at least thats my impression, but you can tolerate Illinois and have the top degree,
just hang in there. You are taking all the right classes. Georgia Tech class size is almost as large at UIUC, because
there are less business, Arts and sciences, and social science majors at GT. UIUC has large departments of humanities and social sciences, and agricultural sciences, , so while your school is very large, your class size is probably about the same as GT.
