Trying to decide which to choose, leaning towards GT.
Currently, I’m between MechE, ChemE, and Comp Sci. At Berkeley I got accepted as a ChemE in the college of chemistry and at GT I was accepted as an undeclared engineer. Basically, since it’s almost impossible to transfer into the college of engineering at Berkeley, I probably would be limited to my major changes, whereas GT would give me full range to change my major in the first 2 years.
But if GT is also the more affordable, I think it’d be the smartest move for you too. Having the freedom to explore other majors is really key…and Tech is top 10 in the country for every one of their tech majors so you can’t go wrong.
We are from California and my DD is a 4th year at GT and loves it. Much more flexible, tons of opportunity, better study abroad for engineering, smaller classes, does research etc. She is having a much more positive experience than her friends at Cal in engineering.
I’m in a similar situation. I got into both Berkeley and Gtech, but for MechE. I’m pretty set on MechE and might also do a minor in Robotics as I hope to go into that career (Places like BostonDynamics, GoogleX, Amazon Robotics, Agility Robotics, etc.). I’m OOS for both schools and while Tech is cheaper, isn’t necessarily a determining factor. I’m stuck between the two rn because while Berkeley may have a better name Tech is big on co ops, so I’m not sure which will provide the best opportunity. I’m also concerned about the difficulty between both schools. I’ve heard that Berkeley has a really competitive atmosphere while Tech is more collaborative, not sure how true that statement is though. I’ve also heard that Tech is an incredibly hard school academically however I’m not sure how it compares to the difficulty at Berkeley. I’m having trouble figuring out which place will be better for me. Any insight is helpful, thanks.
