I'm currently a bio major looking to double major in geosci but I notice that it requires physics 211 and 213. I took or will be taking physics 250/251 so does anyone know if I could just substitute these classes ? I was told by the advising center that they do give special circumstances to double majors so I e-mailed the chair of the department to find out. Also I have to take (if they do approve the physics substitute), between 40 - 44 credits of geosci and 18 credits of bio my last 2 years of Penn State. A total of 58. Credits vary because of geosci 472, 496, and 494W. So is it possible for me to major in both? I'm also a pre med. Would like to hear from geosci majors.

I mean is there a checksheet like this one for geosciences.

There is a checklist here http://www3.geosc.psu.edu/undergrads/documents/HANDBOOKJuly08pdf_000.pdf

Sorry, I don’t know how to do a link. My D is a geoscience major and she found another one, but I don’t know where. I just searched for Geoscience Undergraduate Curriculum.

Oops - I guess I do know how to link

Here is another link with a semester plan.

That won’t apply to you but it’s another form of a checklist.

I e mailed the department head and he said that I might be interested in geobiology since I’m a bio major and I am. Anyone majored in that?

What exactly do you want to do career-wise? You say you are pre-med - are you still planning on pursuing that, or are you looking to change?

Pre med. I decided to do geobio as well because paleontology was my original passion. However I’m looking into PA school also as a plan B but they require anatomy, physiology and microbiology. This can be met by taking bio 129, 141 and 142. Micro 201 and 202 satisfy the micro requirement. All those classes won’t count towards my double major instead they’re electives just to be used for graduation. So I don’t know how I’ll fill all this in. One good thing there’s even more overlap between geobio and biology.
