Hi everybody, I am an international student and my question is;
Is it possible to apply whiteout have taken the SAT IIs for the ivyes or a top college?
Do you know someone who get in just with his SAT I?
Which SAT is more valuable to score good in between SAT I and SAT IIs??
thanks a lot...

i believe most colleges require some SAT II's. I'm which ivies require them though.

Most require at least two, so your application would be deemed not complete, and you would have not chance of getting in. I think a couple only recommend them, but am unsure which.

Thanks because I wanted to retake my SAT I again on January instead of the SAT IIs I planned-----mY SAT score really chopped and skrewed me and I already submitted my application to 3 ivies
Columbia
Princeton
Cornell
Now I am 100% sure they will reject me with my 1380/2400 on the SAT Is.
CR 400
M 510
WR 470
I did assume how bad it was going to be but not THAT bad ever...

I submitted to Georgia tech, NYU polytechnich and UVA.

I know my profile is bumped by hurdles even if I found on the collegeboard website a few percentile of students with the SAT I score who has been admitted in GA tech, Poly Tech and even in SOME IVYES......

That is why I just keep going once it is already done about the application fees.
I just got here in the USA on September, I come from Senegal (West Africa)...I am attending an ESL program right now and my plan is to go to college on fall 2009.

I should have been more realistic indeed :) :(

I'm not sure, they may be a bit more inclined to take you due to your circumstances. You could always spend another year learning English, and then apply for enrollment in Fall 2010.

Yep actually that is what I am thinking about but if I wait till fall 2010 I will be 20 ---I am 18 now...Deos it affect something?

As to top colleges and SAT IIs: (a) you can possibly apply to Stanford, UChicago, Northwestern, or Wash St. Louis w/o SAT IIs because those do not require IIs, although they recommend them; (b) you can possibly apply to Yale, UPenn, and Brown if you submit only ACT because those take the ACT in lieu of both the SAT and SAT IIs. Gtech, one to which you applied, neither requires nor uses SAT IIs for admission. As far as waiting a year, that, in and of itself, does not change chances for admission. Frankly, with current SAT score, your chances at any top college are very slim to none.

Drusba you gave a very me critical and helpful information thanks for that>>>>i AM REALLLLY REALLLY THINKING ABOUT CAHNGING MY TEST TYPE AND TAKE THE SAT I again. The ACT two cannot be taken before FEBRUARY though....

That does not arrange me if I wants to take the ACT because of the deadline.

theres no such thing as the "act two"

What do you mean by that??

You have to be honest with yourself here. You need a close to 1000 point increase to have a decent shot at those Ivies. If you think you can do it, by all means, go for it, but as of now, I'd have to say that should be looking at some safeties.

for most schools, (check each website), there are 2 ways you can fulfill testing requirements.

take the SAT Reasoning Test (SAT I) and two/three SAT Subject Tests (SAT IIs)

take just the ACT

If you take the ACT, for many schools, you need NOT take any other tests! This is why, if deadlines work out, the ACT could be a really good option for you.

Good luck!

oh, and please do yourself a favor and apply to a super-safety...like ASU, they give craploads of merit aid and you can transfer out into an ivy if you do well there.

you said you are going to take the ACT two in post 10

honestly, you have little chance at any of those schools. however, i would guess that you are intelligent, but your poor performance on the SATs is likely because you struggle with English.

it still doesn't hurt to apply this year and give it a shot... but i'm going to give you some real advice:

you could take a year off to work on your English skills, and then retake the SATs and apply again next year.

OR

you could apply to a community college in the states. they offer many ESOL programs, and once you are on your feet after a few years or so, you could apply to higher institutions.

through my parents, i know of someone who came from Benin several years back (he was a Nigerian, but his parents were missionaries) and he could barely speak a lick of English. he came to a community college here, and took English classes and some other introductory courses. he left the CC when he was around 26 years old, and applied to Morgan State and finished 4-5 years later. he is now in his mid-30s, working as a practicing mechanical engineer.

so it's not impossible. you just have to know what to do.

Thanks Guys I will try to know wheteher Those school accept a ACT test on february( ACT not ACT two sorry cubfan716) then IF NOT, I will look to a safety school.......

Applying to my uber reach school (Penn) w/ only ACT

apply to a super-safety even if all your other schools accept ACT scores from February...I don't want to burst your bubble (actually I guess I do want to...)

JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE SCORES IN THE RANGE DOESN'T MEAN YOU WILL GET ACCEPTED. PLEASE APPLY TO A SUPER-SAFETY.
