Getting a 4 vs a 5 in the subject you plan to major in

Hi all,
I just checked my AP scores early, and to my dismay I've found that i got a 4 on AP compsci. I have no idea how this happened whatsoever; i thought i was good to go on the test.

If I'm aiming for a top tier college, with a CS major, how far back will a 4 put me vs a 5?

Thanks in advance for reading / responding!

Yea I’m in the same dilemma

At most schools a 4 will get you credit for the introductory course. Check the colleges website. But remember a lot of freshmen don’t take their AP credit in their major either because the university won’t let them or it would be an easy A and helps pad the GPA. Your non major AP’s will be more valuable in the end.

Y’all need to chill.

I personally do not think it is a big deal… You go to college to learn about your major not come in knowing everything about it! Lighten up

Your top tier college may not even accept (any) AP credits for skipping intro classes. Eh. I would say you shouldn’t lose sleep over this.

Not too far… Lest they’re like Harvard and only take 5s. Maybe you didn’t cover all the topics in class? Maybe you were too busy to put enough effort in CS… You can step up your game in college :)

You go to college to LEARN everything about that major. They don’t expect you to get a 5 and know everything about it before you get there.

They would rather take your money for credit than giving you AP credits. ;)

Im with hevydevy. All you high reachers need to relax. 4 and 5 are both good scores. And if you plan on majoring in what you got the “measly” 4 in, you’re gonna want to learn as much as you can anyway by taking classes, i.e. not testing out of them.

Honestly, that ap test will do you no good in your major. Just take a breath and work on high school, you’ll be fine. They’re not going to say that you can’t do it just because you got a four and not a five.
