my brother drives a 2006 honda civic, and my dad drives a 2004 subaru outback.....and I LOVE toyota....I really want to get either a corolla or a rav 4 or maybe a yaris......

ps. my dad wouldn't let me get a job, becuz he wants me to focus on school, plus tons of college stuff is coming up!! and he's telling me that he doesnt' have money to get me a car....but I would have no problem spending all my savings on my own car....

I see where you're coming from on the whole new car issue, but I'm telling you, from personal experience, that a new car is SOOO much better than a 1996 dodge stratus that doesn't run, doesn't have side mirrors, doesn't have tires, and smells like feet. I'm just sayin'. Good luck!

For a brand-new driver.. old car > new car.

I think like the OP too; I'd much rather have my beloved '95 Camry than an '07 whatever. There's way too much responsibility in having a brand-new car.. it hurts too much if you so much as scratch it, getting into an accident is going to cost a LOT, insurance is probably going to cost more, etc.

But what I don't understand is how your dad wants you to pay $10k at the LEAST when you don't have a job, etc. And he won't let you buy a used car for cheaper??

eh... it doesnt make a big difference either way for me since i already have a used car sitting in my driveway... Both my parents got new cars in the space of 3 months (totally weird) and sold our 1998 Corolla, leaving the SUV for me...

i still like my mom's Honda Civic Hybrid better tho :

I would have told them to sell the SUV...I don't like SUVs. I'd rather drive my 1998 camry than my mom's brand new lexus rx. The thing doesn't respond as well, and my car's much better on gas mileage...well not much better but still better.
