Getting a Masters in Education with a Bachelors of Science??

I'm most likely getting a BS degree, but am looking into going into a graduate program for Higher Education (so I can be an academic advisor/administrator). A Higher/Post-Secondary Education program is an M.Ed, so can I be accepted if I have a BS and not a B.Ed?

my guess is that you're fine, but have you considered looking at the actual prerequisites of the programs you're interested in?

I've tried to look at several schools. I'm not too sure which ones are the best in regards to Higher/Post-Secondary education. The websites I have looked at are rather vague, though, only listing requirements for the application and such.

I'm wondering if anybody has some general prerequisites in mind that will help...
Or offer some good schools.

Some states have special M.Ed programs designed just for this case

You can major in anything prior to the pursuit of an MA in Educational Leadership/Student Affairs Admin.

Just make sure that as an undergraduate, you get some experience working or even volunteering in the Student Affairs/Advising/Admissions offices. Serving as a Resident Assistant in the dorms is extremely helpful.

And keep in mind that the M.Ed. (or other Masters program) you choose MUST have a "track" or specialization option in College Student Personnel, Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs Administration, or College Counseling, or whatever.

The two sites below are excellent starting points for finding appropriate programs.

Thank you Professor X. This helps a lot.
I actually have a job on campus next semester where I'll be a supplemental instructor for a psychology class...kind of like being a TA. And then in the spring semester I'm planning on applying to be an orientation leader. Hopefully these will help me decide if this is something I'd really like to pursue.

I was planning on specializing in Counseling/Academic Advising

I earned a B.A. in Anthropology this past spring and am returning to my school (Washington University in St. Louis) this fall to earn an M.A.Ed, so it is possible!
