Getting a rec. letter from my congressman? <--- cool story

So, kinda odd.

I walked outside my house yesterday and suddenly saw my representative, Al Green. Literally right outside my door. The guy who works in Congress. Just walking down my street, lol.

So I started talking to him, and took pics and whatnot, and then he mentioned something about what grade I'm in and we started talking about college. Then I jokingly told him he should write one of my letters of recommendation, and he semi-jokingly (or maybe seriously?) said he could sit down with me one day and get to know me for a couple minutes and actually write me one.

Ok so, I know he was just being polite, but if I call his office every day, and speak to his secretaries and what not and constantly bother his office, do you think they could ever arrange a 10 minute visit with him? I mean, I know he's really busy and all.. but who knows, Congressmen love to do things like this (learned it in AP Gov ;) )

Additionally, do you know of anyone who's gotten a rec letter from a Cogressman? That would probably get you in just about anywhere hahaha..

Buuuumpppppzzzorz

WOW! Congrats. Side story: When I was waiting for the Veterinarian to respond to my emails and calls I got so frustrated so I just stormed into the Vet hospital and ask to speak to the people in charge of the internships. I got my internship finally lol. But I wouldn’t constantly call them which can get annoying. Veterinarians can get very busy also, so you have to get a hold of people who work closely to him. I got a hold to the RVT (Registered Veterinarian Technician) and she set up a interview for me. Good Luck

It wouldn’t hurt.

I got one from a Congressman for whom I interned. Sorry to say, it really doesn’t help as much as you think it would.

^ Hmmm, very interesting… it’s good to hear from someone who actually experienced this

Well, I don’t think that I would ever actually get the letter… it would be too painstaking. But still very interesting.

Colleges specifically talk about this kind of stuff as what they don’t want in rec letters. They want to hear from people who know you, not people who are well known. Pursue this if you want to, but it likely won’t make anything close to a difference anywhere, and there’s a chance it’ll hurt you at some places since it won’t give an accurate sense of you as a person and they’ll see through the plan of having someone successful write your rec so you can look more successful.

Very interesting, I had no idea. I guess I won’t pursue this.

The only reason you get letters of recommendation is to make you look more successful so your point isn’t valid. I am interning for a congressman right now. I love learning about the process, and a letter of recommendation would definitely help your chances!
