Ok, I honestly wasn't trying to brag about my connections, I thought it was funny that my dad knew someone who knew someone, etc...but apparently it wasn't.

Relax, Dash. It wasn't you.

My good friend TN just tends to jump too soon from time to time. It's all cool. We're all learning.

Again, if you're really concerned, just have this person send another copy. Momoftwins is probably right, too, but I know in matters such as this, one wants to be sure.

As for whether recommendations (and by whom) work, who knows? As with anything subjective, the variables are too numerous to control. Sure, a MOC may request letters only from people on a given list, but if (and I'll exagerate on purpose) he gets a letter from the President, who just happens to be in his party, well, I doubt it will be ignored.

I've always said that if you have someone who can write a legitimate and GOOD (as in "well-written") recommendation for you, you should send it unless the instructions from the target specifically dictate otherwise (because then it might just tick them off, which you don't want). If the person writes the letter happens to be Someone, whether it hurts or helps will depend on who is writing and who is reading. I doubt I would ever give a recommendation written by Jack Murtha ANY credibility, for example. I'd file it in the toilet where it belongs.

Choose wisely, and good luck. Just remember that ANY recommendation, written by ANYONE to ANYONE, MUST be backed up by YOUR qualifications or else it's worthless. They're nice to have, but they're NOT silver bullets.
