Hey guys, I'm a junior at U of M and I was wondering if you guys have any tips for getting a proper internship for the summer. I'm a pretty mediocre student majoring in English and have mainly worked in retail and I really just have no idea where to start because I don't know what I want to do after I graduate so...yeah. If you have any tips or even know of a good place to look for a regular summer job that would be great! I just want to get out of retail hell.

If you don’t know what you want to do and aren’t good at your unmarketable major, I don’t think there’s much you can do. Look at the career connector and see what you qualify for.

Either way, I don’t think you’re looking for UMich specific advice.

Use your connections wisely. Your parents and friend’s parents are a good place to start.

For an English major, I would really focus on networking. I’m not too sure exactly what you’re looking for but try to find family friends that work in that industry and ask for recommendations. Then apply, interview, and get working.
