If I take Piano classes over the summer, and practice in my freetime. Can I list it as a talent?

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHA that is THE funniest thing i have ever heard, can i gain a talent right before i apply to college!!!!

i'm not sure how good you can get, and i think theyd see right through you. if you just want to learn piano though, go right ahead.

Hey what ever it takes to get into college :D

But on my application do I just list talents, of which I would put Piano? Or will # of years played be on there, or perhaps them wanting me to perform for them?

If you list playing piano as a talent, the school may ask you to send a recording. They will likely ask about your practice time devoted to piano playing and when you took up piano.

Kinglin, i had the exact same problem so you're not alone. Just try to dig deep and think of something meaningful(to you) that you can show the admissions committee. I would not advise creating an artificial "talent" just before filling out the application, they will see it for exactly what it is(a last minute effort to load up on meaningless ecs).

They are not going to ask you to perform for them, unless of course you are a juilliard applicant! Generally, people with real talents will supplement their apps with audio tapes, or whatever can be used to demonstrate their talent. It is optional tho.

hate to break it to you, but it's not going to help your app much. Colleges want proof of your talent. A few lessons over the summer isn't going to make you a serious competitor next to thousands of other extrordinary pianists who have been playing it since they were very young. Of course, this is not to discourage you from learning piano, it's never too late to start an instrument. :) However, i doubt it'll give you much of a boost in the admission process.

yeah. and you can't really develop a talent over the summer unless its innate, which...props to you, but maybe you'd be discovered by now? if you're not super awesome at piano, it won't help much, unless you really really love piano and not just for your app.

the guy i know who is playing music at yale practiced everyday for 8 hours, and has played since he was 3....that's a 'talent' (he sent in pieces - it is optional, but it backs up how talented you are...plus, it asks you to list how long you've been doing it...and a '1 summer' just looks like you did it for your app, which i think you're basically doing it for....i think they'll be able to see through that, cuz others have probably done it before)
