I've done the ACT writing three times and I've gotten an 8 each time. The first time I took it, I didn't even write a counter argument. When I took it the next time I figured that writing the essay in the format that they want would raise my score, but no such luck. Any tips on how to raise my score? I'm not sure if the problem is creativity or what because I do very well on essays in school.

Also, does anyone know how much small LACs (Grinnell, Kenyon, Colby, Macalester, Carleton) care about your writing score? I feel like an 8 isn't very impressive to these schools.
