Hey everyone. Recently, I got my SAT scores back and I am kinda worried. This is my first try; I got a 460 Reading and 580 Math. I plan to take it again, and improve my scores a little bit. I am hoping to get at least a 500 on reading and 600 on math. I am a junior in HS. I rank about 35 out of 350 students of my class. I have a HS GPA of around 4.3. I take/took this year: honors precalc then calculus, honors History 2, Spanish 3, Hon chemistry, regular English. Next year I plan to take AP calc BC, Hon Chem 2.
I don't have an extracurricular portfolio. I only played soccer my freshmen and sophomore(varsity) years. I am not allowed to get a job because I help out my step dad with a cleaning business. That sucks, because I know you cannot put down your relatives as a reference on the college applications/portfolio. I feel that I am smart, because the high school classes are a breeze, but I lack good English skills, because I moved to US 4 years ago. I know that majority of students that take English related tests trust their ear rather than "proper grammatical rules". In another words, students write essays what not based on how "right" the sentence sounds. On the other hand, for me, I have not developed that skill yet. Same thing with the vocabulary section of the SAT.
Back to my question, do you think I have chances being accepted to some of the schools that I have been thinking about which are as follows: Penn State, Temple University, Rutgers University(NJ), University of Central Florida, University of Toledo, Wilkes University. I am not sure what exactly I want to major in, but I might be interested in pharmacy degrees. Almost all of there universities have a pre-pharmacy studies. What do you think?

Pre-Pharm programs are very, very competitive, I believe.

You should be fine for Temple, although it wouldn’t hurt to raise your SAT score. Are you a PA resident? Looking for financial aid?

No, I am a NJ resident. I will take the SAT again, and maybe an ACT at the beginning of next year. I am looking for financial aid also.

In that case, you definitely need to raise your SAT score, because anything you get financially would be loans or work study.
