Getting Deferment from Colleges

Hi everyone!

I just got accepted into the USC Honors College last night!! I am super happy about it, because that is my top choice for college. The only problem is that I really, really, really wanted to take a GAP year between high school and college.

I know that I can get deferment for basic undergraduate admission, but can I get deferment from the honors college? I am not willing to re-apply and risk not getting in on the second application.

I am perfectly happy going to the USC Honors College in the fall of 2019 if a GAP year is not possible, but I would very much prefer a GAP year. Does anybody have any experience with this and know if/how it works?

Call them and ask. My daughter was admitted to Rice ED and there was an option on the I accept page for gap year which required a plan for said gap year. So if you are going to ask for it, be prepared to provide some outline of your plans for the gap year.

If they will not extend the Honors College offer for another year, consider doing your freshman year, then taking
a leave of absence and do a belated Gap year between Freshman and sophomore year.
