My d is auditioning at De Paul Wednesday 1-6pm, then needs to get to O'Hare to catch an 8pm flight back to DC. Wondering if anyone knew whether there was a University shuttle service? Or could recommend a cab service? Or if anyone else is doing the same journey if they'd like to share the ride?

You know DePaul is a callback audition, correct? Your D will perform one monologue along with all the other kids there and then they will select about 10 kids for a callback. Only the kids called back have to stay until 6. So, hopefully, she is there until 6 but if not she will have a lot more time.
We will be there tomorrow too. We are taking a cab from the Palmer house to DePaul and then back. Your D can ask for me if she has any trouble finding a cab. I can help her.

Dramamom0804, you could take the Red Line from Palmer House (it’s right outside the State Street door) to Fullerton for DePaul. Bardsmom (great name!), it’s a little trickier to get to the airport from DePaul by train, since you’d have to come back into the loop and switch to the blue line, but the CTA is $2.50 per person and takes about 40 minutes from the Loop to O’Hare…could NOT be simpler or more economical. (and often faster when there’s traffic)

Thanks jkellyn17. I’ve never taken the subway here. Maybe we will try it if we aren’t in a hurry. D has CMU audition wed morning and I don’t know how long that will take. But would save some $ if we aren’t in a hurry!

dramamom-- I’m not from Chicago and I took the CTA from the Loop to O’Hare and it wasn’t bad. (I was nervous but it was easy.)

We were just in Chicago last week and took the CTA all over the place – to Steppenwolf, to the Hideout, to Wicker Park for lunch (BigStar tacos, amazing!) and to and from O’Hare. It is not as complicated as the NY subway, though it is a hub and spoke system, so getting around among outlying areas takes some doing. (There are buses that connect the different lines, but that’s pretty advanced for visitors.)

dramamom0804 – what time are you leaving the Palmer on Wednesday? maybe you could share a cab
ride/fare?
jkellynh17 - thanks for the tips. I think given the luggage she’ll be taking, a taxi would be best. glad you like my name; I have the great fortune to be a Shakespeare teacher/director. best job ever!

yes, luggage, didn’t think of that. BTW, Shakespeare changed my son’s life…literally. (He’s a freshman acting major at CCPA/Roosevelt, hence my frequent forays to Chicago.)

Bards mom. I don’t exactly know. It will depend on when the morning audition is over. Does your D have a morning audition too?

jkelly - lovely to hear that Shakespeare changed your son’s life; that happens time and time again with kids I know. it’s magical.
dramamom - her last one is at 11:30am (Royal Welsh College - she has duel citizenship so is looking at UK schools as well as US). What time is your daughter’s morning audition?

She has Carnegie Mellon so I don’t really know the exact time. We check in at 8 am and then I think you get a time slot. It should be done by 12 at the latest but could be earlier. let me try and PM you…
