Getting home

I have been accepted and I really want to go to OSU. The only problem would be me getting home because I’m from Chicago. Is there a bus or some way to get home besides flying. Thanks and Go Buckeyes!

Try megabus.com

That site is awesome! Thanks alot.

Happy to help. I haven’t used them b/c they don’t go to STL except through Chicago. But I think megabus might even have a stop/pickup on campus. You might want to check on that.

Too bad there isn’t a railway service!!! It is has always seemed strange to me that there are no train connections to Cleveland or Cincinnati, either. It is hard to imagine that the largest university in the USA has no railway service available.

One thing I forgot - there is also a ride share board at OSU. I tried to use it at Thanksgiving, but didn’t have much luck finding a ride to STL. Maybe it would be better for Chicago as more students might be traveling there.

Anyway - transport shouldn’t be a problem! Come to OSU.

There’s always Greyhound. It might take some planning but it could be done. My son checked the Greyhound site for buses home and then took a 20 minute city bus ride down High Street to within maybe a block or two of the Greyhound station where he bought his ticket and then called us to let us know when to pick him up on our end. It was fine. That said, the station was not in a great area so he made sure to leave during daylight. I think you might be able to buy your tickets online too.

There are a lot of people from Chicago at OSU, so you would have the opportunity to get rides that way also.

I agree. I think the only issue I’ve run into is getting to the airport during non-break periods. OSU runs a bus to the airport during breaks, but not other times.

It is surprising to me that we are forced to pay COTA fees and then have such poor service to the airport. I have to pay for shuttles when I travel for sports.

we live in the chicago area and our son is a junior at osu. we have always flown, because southwest rates are great if you know ahead of time.it’s a 50 minute flight and his friends pick him up most of the time.we’ve already set up a flight for spring break.osu calendar is set up ahead of time.

In doing my research on this univerity I was also shocked that there is not a regular shuttle going to the airport at least on the weekends. A school this size must mean people are flying in and out all the time. Not a deal-breaker by any means, but just surprising.

You can hire a cab to the airport for less than 20 bucks, or take public transport there. There’s really not a big demand for OSU to offer constant shuttles to the airport, especially since most students are from Ohio.

kelseyg

Please tell me who got you to the airport for $20. I’d really like to know that because it costs me $25-26 each way, to and fro, every time I travel there.

IIRC there was a company that used to leave cards in all the dorms saying they’d take you to the airport for like, $15 I think. but it could have been false advertising or I could be remembering incorrectly.

during the ends of breaks and beginning of new terms there are free shuttles to the airport. There is a schedule you can pick up at the union.
