Dartmouth has always been my favorite college and have always wanted to go there. Im becoming a freshmen in High School, but im not sure what im aiming for. So im posting this thread to find out what i need to know and what kind of EC i should have, my GPA has to be, and what my SAT score has to be. I really want to go to this school, but i dont know if i have what it takes to get in.
Gender: Male
Age: 14
My grades are decent, but I haven't given my middle school grades a lot of effort. I have maintained A's and B's but i know i have to kick it up.

So what im asking in this thread is..
What my GPA score should be.
What my SAT score should be.
What EC's i should take.
What classes I should take.
I can take up to 3 honors classes in 9th grade,
3 honors and AP European History for 10 grade,
Im not sure about 11th and 12th but im still in 9th grade so i just want a general idea. Please post it would help a lot. Thanks

I debated whether I should even respond, but I'll try to help you out.

You should take challenging courses that are available to you and that you are interested in. It is difficult to say what your GPA "should" be, but certainly in the top 10% unless you go to a top private school, and if you go to an average public school you should be at or almost at the top of your class.

Here are the ranges for test scores:

SAT Critical Reading: 660 - 770
SAT Math: 670 - 780
SAT Writing: 660 - 770
ACT Composite: 29 - 34

Shoot for scores that fall in these ranges. Obviously it's better to be higher in the range, but test scores aren't everything.

Do whatever activities you enjoy. Never do something only as a means to glorify your application. It would be good to get a summer job or to use your summer to pursue an internship or some sort of project that you're interested in.

Now go, work hard, and have fun. It's summer man. Go play some video games with your friends or start a pick up game of soccer. You are 14 and way too young to be worrying about all this stuff. Come back to the forum when you are a junior (when you should be concerned with college), and people will be more than willing to help you. Good luck.

I will say, though that Dartmouth likes high SAT scores.

Honestly a top 5% rank, a 2250+ SAT, and great ECs will put you in the running. A Val or Sal, 2350+, strong ECs is very likely.
