Getting in

Is any individual college harder to get into than the others? For example, the business school is my ideal option. But, if that is a lot harder, I probably won't stand a chance.

SOM (School of Management) is the hardest undergraduate school to get into at Binghamton University, followed by (in my opinion) Decker School of Nursing, Harpur College of Arts and Sciences/Watson School of Engineering (Harpur is only easier because its the largest school, thus a higher number get accepted) and the College of Community and Public Affairs, which is the school with essentially one major, Human Development (social work).

It is much easier to get into SOM as a freshman than as a transfer, so if SOM is your first choice apply as a freshman, assuming you are one.

Do you know any objective data on SOM’s admissions? Median SAT/ACT, GPA, etc.

I was told that unlike in past years, you can apply to your first choice and your second choice. So you could apply to SOM as your first choice, get rejected, and be accepted to Harpur.

The question is, if you apply to Harpur as your first choice, wouldn’t you have a better chance of getting admitted than if Harpur were your second choice?

^
but it’s a bit pointless if your desired major is in SOM or another school.
and as I’ve heard, its very difficult to transfer within schools.
if you were in Harpur and wanted to go in SOM, there are a lot of requirements to apply, and it’s possible to not get in as well.

There’s not a lot of objective data other than the general admissions statistics. I would suggest looking at the SOM website for any information that will help you make your decision.

The School of Management here at Binghamton is really good. I am currently a freshmen accounting major and I love it here. Recruiters from the top accounting and business firms come to Binghamton to host events. It is very important to network. In accounting in particular, Binghamton is the top feeder school to Pricewaterhouse Coopers (number two accounting firm) and number three feeder school to the Big 4 Accounting firms.

Binghamton is number two in the nation for accounting. It is affordable and worth applying.

If you are really interested in business, apply to Binghamton SOM even if your statistics may not be up to par. You will never know where the admissions will take you.

Do not quote me on this but I believe the average SAT score for SOM is 2020 out of 2400. I personally had a 2210 but was waitlisted. Admissions is really unpredictable at times.

I love it here and cannot see myself anywhere else.
