Hi i am from a catholic private school in florida and i have a 3.0 and have been a 4 year captain on our soccer team my sat is not bad 530 on math 570 on reading and 570 on writing i have been admitted to alabama and i was wondering if i could get into auburn i saw that min gpa for a scholarship was 3.0 for out of state but my sat was a little bit lower then what you need what are your thoughts?

Based on the information you’ve given, Auburn is a reach for you. If you’re interested in the school, I’d suggest studying hard and reaching for at least a 1200 on the SAT. Auburn’s average GPA is a 3.68 so a good first senior year semester could also help.

However, what is the reputation of your school? Do they grade harshly or is there a lot of grade inflation? Is your 3.0 weighted or unweighted and what is your course load like (honors and APs, all regular courses, any dual enrollment, etc…)? The difficulty of your schedule matters when it comes time to review your GPA.

If you love the school, try to get up your scores. If you can’t work them up, go ahead and apply anyway if you have the extra time/money. It can’t hurt and at least you have Alabama in the wings so you can breathe easy.

As a fellow Floridian I’m wondering if you’re interested in any schools in state? Even public schools out of state will have a pretty hefty price tag! Also, how in the world did you get an acceptance from Alabama so early in the year??

See thats what everyone says and your probly right but some students ive talked to that were admitted last year had the same stats as me and got in comming from a so called bad highschool in my area. I believe that maybe there stats are inflated because there acceptance rate is almost 80 percent while bama is 54. Bama is also rolling admissons since august so once you apply youll know in a week or 2 if your in money is not really a concern for me thank god but i did have offers to stay in florida and play soccer full rides to ucf and usf im just tired of the sunshine state time to get a new place!
