Getting into engineering with humanities ECs?

I’m a girl wanting to major in computer science in an engineering college. Many schools also offer CS in their Arts & Sciences school. Since I have mainly humanities extracurriculars/awards (with the exception of a coding club all 4 years), would it be easier to get into CAS instead of engineering? My favorite college at the moment is Cornell and a few others that offer this option. I think I could enjoy the major at either college.

My ECs are related to gender, poetry, running, meditation…

Thanks in advance

Humanities EC’s really shouldn’t hurt you - colleges are looking for well rounded applicants and your EC’s certainly reflect that.

I think it’s a refreshing change from what they usually see and it will work to your advantage. The engineering related EC you do have needs to be very rock solid, though, as do your academic preparations.

Believe me, Engineering Schools don’t just want people with Engineering ECs. What they want is that you show passion and leadership.

I wouldn’t worry. One of my daughters got into Harvey Mudd. She had a couple years of Robotics (school only had a team for two years), one of coding club, a couple of biology related things, and the rest were humanities and sports. You might look at applying to Mudd, they appreciate students with STEM and humanities interests.

Thanks so much!

How’s the running?

Let’s just say I’m lucky on days my mile time drops below 6 minutes lol @JustOneDad‌

Plenty of kids don’t do engineering/science ECs at all but become great engineers.

The exact subject of your EC matters less than the dedication and leadership you put into it!
