Getting into finance/economics/business with a BA in an unrelated fields.

Long story short, I have a dual BA in history and political science. I graduated in 2010 and took a job abroad teaching. While I was abroad, I developed an interest in finance, economics, and business, and began self-studying them during my down time. Now that I've returned home, I've had no luck in finding jobs related to those fields, so I was looking to go back to school.

I was wondering if it was possible for someone with my academic background to apply for a masters in finance or economics? Should I even bother? I am also thinking about getting a BS in either of the above subjects. I would prefer to get my masters, but I would like to enter a new field. Do you think it would be better to try for a masters degree, or start a BS program? Please advise.

Some work experience in the financial services field would bolster or add credibility to your application. Even academic or unpaid work would help. But, as an applicant, you may face some hard-sledding with your current experience, as you’ve described it.
