Getting Into Medical School

I have just finished my second year and UCR and I was planning on going into nursing. I had been talking to my health professions advising center at my university and she said that I hadn't had enough doctor shadowing in order to make sure that nursing was the route I wanted to go versus med school. I volunteer at my moms work (who's OR nurse) along with another volunteer position at a local hospital that I just got. After shadowing doctors and nurses for a few weeks its allowed me to realize that nursing is defiantly not for me and med school I the route that I really want to go. However, I feel like I have screwed up too far and it kills me thinking that I won't be able to get into med school. As a second year I am a Math major and although I have gotten all A's and B's in my math classes I have not done as well in my gen chem, ochem, and bio classes. I understood the material but when I was taking these classes I thought I wouldnt need them so I slacked off. I passed all of them except for one quarter of Bio which I can retake but other than that my school doesn't allow retakes. I dont know what to do to improve my GPA when I only have 6 quarters left until I graduate. any advise would be extremely helpful!

anything less than a B in any of those courses is bad…if you can retake them i would suggest you do it

If you are applying to MD schools there won’t be grade replacement so retaking would be a waste. You’d be better off trying to dilute the bad grades with other courses.

You can retake them and DO schools will replace the scores when they view your app. MD schools won’t.
