Hello all,
I am currently a sophmore at a very well respected public highschool in suburban Chicago. My GPA averages around 3.2-3.3ish range. I am also in all regular classes. I am also a member of key club in my school as well as the radio broadcasting program (an elective, however does require staying after school once a week to do a show). Out side of school I am extremely active in scouts and plan on earning my Eagle before applying to college. I am also a camp counselor for the summer at a scout reservation (that shall remain nameless for yall)
My number one school is currently Syracuse. My question to the community is if this sounds like enough if I wanted to do a political science (or maybe business?)or similar major at 'Cuse? (Definitely not Newhouse as that would be impossible for me)
My top schools are
1: Syracuse University (as mentioned)
2: Marquette University
3: Miami University - Ohio
4: Indiana University
5: Michigan State University
Money wont be too much of an issue but I will probably still apply for grants and what not form the unversity and elsewhere
I appreciate you reading this!
If your h.s. offers advanced classes of some kind, I suggest you take several before you graduate, preferably not all in senior year. Then study hard for the SATI because that score is going to be meaningful to all your schools.
Now rather than later, broach the question with your parents about how much money they’re likely to be able to contribute to your education each year. Ask them to take some time to consider what they were planning to contribute/what they might afford, and then come back at them in a couple weeks or a month. Applicants are often surprised at what their parents are able or willing to contribute, and affordability is the #1 criterion for an applicant at any school. I noticed for instance that you’ve chosen several OOS public colleges and two expensive private colleges. You might want to add UIUC to your list as a financial safety (but it’s at least as fine a school as any of those on your list). Other Illinois publics are also good values. With your parents’ help, you can this year figure out what each of these schools could cost you based on your parents’ salaries and assets. This will be vital information.
Most importantly, maintain or improve your GPA and enjoy your high school years. You’ll go to a good college and get a good education no matter where you go or can afford.
the problem is that I dont think I would get into UIUC with my stats
You have some time, it’s true, but only you can determine what your stats will be, OP. Still, you’re not going to any school you cannot afford. Have that talk with mom and dad. It will clarify things for you.
Thank you for advice, but do you think my stats could get me into syracuse?
Like me, Syracuse won’t tell you “no” until they see the standardized test scores. It’s too early to tell.
