getting into USC architecture

I really want to get into the architecture program of USC. I'm a transfer student at Bellevue college at Washington.

I have some questions and can any of you who knows very well about the admissions of USC or was or is an actual student attending USC, help me with them????

My concern is, when i was attending another college in california i had some difficulties focusing on my classes due to family problems. I miserably failed like 6 classes (one class even twice) but i've worked my way out, retook them and got straight A's in the end.

I've asked the admissions and they said that they average the two grades (first grade and retaken grade) so even if I've got A's on them they'll appear as a "C" which will influence my GPA ALOT. (when its not averaged my gpa is 3.7/4.00)

I'm worried about this; would this be a big disadvantage? or would they consider my improved grades as a cumulative? (I've gotton straight A's at the college i'm attend right now)

Other than the GPA, I know that the portfolio is extremely important.
I'm planning to show my artistic talents to the very best to cover my gpa.
To what extend does the school expect from us?
actual 3-D models of building structure etc?
or can it be just like a art portfolio??

HELP please!!

Thanks:)
